Get a rope................these allegations are way too severe to overlook..it involves harming another person, it's not like getting caught with a little weed....this, if convicted is some serious deserved prison time.

Not defending Conley but the police did say they were going to bring charges on what the case brings out whether it was Conley or the lady bringing a false claim. Betting by Thursday night there will be some indication of guilt or innocent on side or the other. The Cleveland police have put many more resources on this than usual due to the circumstances (i.e. draft) so it should be less of a factor on Thursday. It still probably affects him some with a drop but how much remains to be seen.

One thing on Conley though is he hasn't had any altercation that is known before this, considered to be a team leader, outstanding work ethic, and does a lot of volunteer work with the under privilege outside of football so nothing leads to this being a thing anyone say happening. Not say it couldn't happen, just no prior indication of anything like this to happen.

If guilt, he needs to go away for a long time, and on the same count, if the lady is just trying to get money from a potential first round pick, then she needs to go away for a long time for the false reporting of a serious crime.

As to Dallas selecting him, it should depend strictly on what Dallas' investigate team finds out between now and the draft. I do not believe Stephen would risk any pick on someone they cannot vet on such a serious crime, not a 3rd round or any other round.

Shouldn't it also be "some serious deserved prison time" if the allegations are false? What should the penalty be for an opportunistic gold digger for screwing up a young man's chance for his future?

Two sides to this, and far too often, only one side faces any consequences.

I'm probably going to get heat for this but-
Sounds like she agreed to go to Westin hotel in Cleveland with him. I'm sorry but 99.9 % of the people including her knew what was going to occur (not rape but sex). Sounds to much like a setup.
If he checks out with no other problems like the story said I would take him with a 3rd.

I would give Stevie credit for being honest if he said that. Of course the chances that he would be that frank are close to zilch.

I would understand it but 3rd is too high to risk. If it were me I would operate as if he is not draftable until the 6-7 rounds. If he is still there at that time those are the picks you take a flyer with.

Yes, it absolutely should be if it turns out as a false report that she be held accountable for defaming the man's character and costing him literally millions of dollars.....IMO it should be the same sentence as he would have received. There's no way to recover the millions he will have lost due to the false report so either way he still loses too.

It would be beyond dumb to draft him without the facts. If it's jail possibility why?

It would be. But my guess is the Cowboys would be making the selection based on information that the Cowboys security department has gathered and vetted.

I don't think the Cowboys would select Conley for poops and giggles without knowing any details at all.

There have been 32 teams of private investigators working on this since the alleged incident in early April. They know a hell of a lot more than the us, the media, and likely the police. I believe Conley will be in play in round 2 because these teams will feel comfortable with the facts that he's a good kid (which seems to be a universal thought by scouts) and that this incident did not happen. The problem is PR. Going to take a strong organization to deal with it without resolution of the legal process.

FWIW, Peter King in his MMQB report this morning said he talked to two execs that are very involved in their teams' draft and both said Conley's report came back totally clean with no red flags until this thing popped up. So I think you may end up being right. Conley might, likely, will slide out of Rd 1 but he'll be off the board no later than Rd 3.

I think they have people all over this, sparing no expense. Jones has money to burn and none of this stuff counts against the cap where he's forced to play on equal footing. Any advantages he has outside of that cap, he knows how to maximize.

Take him at 228 or 246.

I suspect if he starts to plummet, his agent is going to go the way of Collins and basically tell teams to not bother taking him........... he'll go the UDFA route.

Which frankly, might be good for us.

Unless you have really good info from a reliable source, you can't draft a player with an allegation like this out there.

And, it's a shame either way that this turns out. Either this guy was a complete scumbag and torpedoed his career, while covering up a pretty crappy side of his personality, or a woman went and destroyed an innocent man and cost him millions with a BS charge. Makes me sick.

Do you know for sure that he won't be able to play?

That's the point here. The Cowboys wouldn't select Conley without having solid information that this isn't going to be a problem.

Why do people act like the Cowboys would just draft him for fun without any knowledge of the situation and potential future ramifications?

Collins said he would sit out a year if drafted late
Correct.

Basically told teams not to bother drafting him if it wasn't in the first otherwise he would sit out.

It was pretty smart for him in hindsight. He knew he was innocent and his agent played it out well for him.

Not so sure Conley is either that innocent or has as good of an agent based on how he has handled the situation thus far.

The shirtless Instagram post was particularly unintelligent.

I would take him 60 and not think twice about it. Let's face it, this is all just a witch hunt. These kids brought some girls up to their rooms like all other college kids do. The woman in question took offense to being asked to leave the room and threw out "rape" allegations to get even. All the eye witnesses that were there (even the girls friends) said the two had no contact while in the room. And it's not like like he has any history of, well, anything. By all accounts he's one of the best kids in this draft class. Take him at 60 after hopefully taking McDowell at 28 and the D is instantly improved.

It's the third round and Conley is still available because of the rape allegations that just came out. With the 92nd pick in the 2017 NFL draft the Dallas Cowboys select, Gareon Conley. The draft night finishes and after all the talk, backlash, rants and so forth Stephen Jones is at the podium to discuss the draft. When asked about Conley he comes out and says this:

"We made this pick knowing what we don't know. We all remember what happened a few years ago with Lael Collins. This can go one of two ways, it's that simple. If he is found or we believe he is to have been found guilty we will simply cut him. If not and his name is cleared then he will be welcomed to our football team. Before this allegation he was labeled a good kid, a high character person. A team leader. This is nothing more than a poker play. If we hit we hit and if we miss we miss. Thank you, no further questions."
The Cowboys will investigate the issue. They asked Stephen on a radio interview about taking a player like this and he referenced La'el and said he thinks the Cowboys have the infrastructure to investigate these issues quickly.

If he have zero information, then the 3rd round would be to early, but I think even based on the public information that fans can see, the woman's story seem highly questionable.
