How would you feel if Stephen Jones did this?

It's the third round and Conley is still available because of the rape allegations that just came out. With the 92nd pick in the 2017 NFL draft the Dallas Cowboys select, Gareon Conley. The draft night finishes and after all the talk, backlash, rants and so forth Stephen Jones is at the podium to discuss the draft. When asked about Conley he comes out and says this:

"We made this pick knowing what we don't know. We all remember what happened a few years ago with Lael Collins. This can go one of two ways, it's that simple. If he is found or we believe he is to have been found guilty we will simply cut him. If not and his name is cleared then he will be welcomed to our football team. Before this allegation he was labeled a good kid, a high character person. A team leader. This is nothing more than a poker play. If we hit we hit and if we miss we miss. Thank you, no further questions."

It would be beyond dumb to draft him without the facts. If it's jail possibility why?

Collins went undrained and so will this guy. A 3rd is wayyyyy too high for the trouble. Signing an accused rapist is a very bad PR.

If taking Conley is even being considered, they'd better get busy, investigate thoroughly and be pretty confident that Conley isn't guilty. That'll be a tough proposition, since there's only one day left before the draft commences. Additionally, I think there's a real chance that he won't be allowed to participate in the same manner that La'el was prohibited from the draft. It's just an unfortunate incident, all the way around, for all concerned.

And it is nothing like Collins. There was a little more time to filter through it and Collins' agent made it clear what would happen if a team drafted him outside the first.

This is also an unresolved rape case. No team in their right mind should want to take that on for a player, even a great one, without having resolution to defend your decision.

The absolute worst thing I could imagine is Stephen Jones, or worse his father, fumbling about at a podium at the conclusion of this draft, trying to defend the pick against what would be a hostile media. And you know that would be the case.

Find another corner in a good draft for them. It is not that hard.

In this draft I would rather play it safe and get some for sure guys. Always looking for the special case bargain in the 2nd and 3rd round is getting a little old.
Not to mention that the track record with that working out is not very good. I would understand if there had been a few Super Bowls won because of the "stratergy".

"Hey Zeke, here are two tickets to go visit the school. Take Jadon Witten with you. Go get the skinny on Conley."

yes, get the inside scoop and yes, get someone that will give the TEAM answer, not the "I am also a kid that makes bad decisions" answer

Take him at 28. This is insanity. Based on the logic I'm seeing here a bunch of disgruntled exes could shut down the whole draft. What is someone comes out today and accuses Myles Garrett of a crime? Does he go undrafted as well? This is stupid. Independent eyewitness say Conley was never once alone with this woman. Pretty hard to rape her under those circumstances

I also dont have to deal with the PR crapstorm, so its not really valid.

I deal with the PR nightmare if the player is the next coming of Deion Sanders.

I don't if they are a JAC. Just. Another. Cornerback.

There have been 32 teams of private investigators working on this since the alleged incident in early April. They know a hell of a lot more than the us, the media, and likely the police. I believe Conley will be in play in round 2 because these teams will feel comfortable with the facts that he's a good kid (which seems to be a universal thought by scouts) and that this incident did not happen. The problem is PR. Going to take a strong organization to deal with it without resolution of the legal process.
