How would you handle the Barber situation?

If Barber was smart...he would sign the deal that has been put before him...because if he doesn't, he will only be playing for 2.5M next season. And he has all the added risk of potentially getting hurt next year. With the money we have invested in this OL...with the threat we have at QB....with the weapons we have in the passing game...with the aggressiveness of our o-coordinator...a turtle should be able to run in Dallas. So we should not and we will not up our offer....so Marion better listen to his heart and instincts and stop letting Drew Rosenhaus control everything.

I think i came to this forum giving you all to much credit. LMAO at comments like "Romo will see most of that 67 million" that hilarious, i gues i landed among a bunch of fortune tellers, who've mistaking NFL contract with NBA. Romo gets 67 million and 31 guaranteed and you think he gets all that money. SMH. im done with this conversation.
I think it's just as likely you came to pimp a deal in the >$40M range for Barber. Nice try, Drew.

We like Barber, I like him enough that he may be worth even $35M. But the salary cap is a heartless thing, and unless you learn to deal with it and keep key pieces in place, you'll trade one season of fantasy football lineups for a few seasons of limited moves and likely less production.

The picks of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are pretty well calculated, and in more ways than one. Jerry Jones has been taking note of history; not all his moves may pan out, but I think he's onto something with this one.

Let the season start, then we'll have a better idea. In addition to the cap, what killed the dynasty of the 90's was a few too many players that had to be paid top dollar or have prime roles instead of contributing as a team. Three out of four years with trophies was great, but it could have been even better. Let's hope this version gets it, at least to the tune of a couple.

And Barber is the most logical to let go on that list?

who would you think? For me its Barber (depending on how the rookies play this year) Hamlin and Coloumbo.

His demands will come down when his body can't take the full work load. Let him play another season and see what he actually is.

Romo could have received more on the open market, but he elected to take a little less in order to stay on this team and not cripple it with a salary that wasn't cap/team friendly.

Barber needs to follow Romo's lead.

As does Newman/Hamlin/Canty and the rest.

well, I don't think Romo would have received more on the open market, especially considering some of his play in the second part of the season...but I do love the idea of these players being willing to take a little less in order to not cripple the team...it would be nice if they actually did think like that.

I agree - that is where you start.

Take the compensatory picks for these guys.

TNew is unfortunately irreplaceable as a top 5 CB - hopefully we can come to an agreement. If not, slap the franchise tag on him. If we are happy with our set of CBs we should be able to trade him for a first to someone.

If Romo sniffed FA, Parcells would have snapped him up in a NY minute. He has tons of cap space to work with in Miami because of the lack of talent on the roster. That is why we had to get Flo's deal done before the start of FA.

Exactly.

Romo would have gotten at least 10% more on the open market.

Under a cap system we can't afford everyone. Someone's going to have to be let go.

figuring value to team and potential cost here are my picks:

must keep:

ware

love to keep:

newman
canty

like to keep:

barber
columbo
hamlin

That's a pretty reasonable and non-homeristic view of it.

So what about Spears and Tank, or are you saying they aren't worth keeping at all?

lets put them in the "can keep" category for now. if they show more this year, we can move them to the "like to keep" category.

spears is pretty good in run support and tank needs to show more. i am not 'dissing' them. remember we are trying to figure out who of all these we can keep and what are our priorities.

I would not go that far but I do think we will get him signed. I think Barber is a spark plug for this offense and I think his attitude he plays with rubs off on the rest of the unit. Right now we are just seeing negotiation taking place so expect some back and forth between the 2 parties until something is hammered out. This is not personal it is just business.

Yes, I agree, well put Dooms...

I just can't see losing the TD machine. Hopefully it gets resolved... I really think it will.

We are talking Jerry Jones, if a deal can be made Jerry is the guy who can get it done. He and Rosenhaus have a good relationship I think they will come to some type of compromise

Those guys really aren't core players. I would lump them in the like to keep group.
