Like most athletes that either are fighting injuries (or those that are well past their prime), he shows flashes of his old self.

That's good news. He needs to be gradually brought into the fold and protected. Not only because of injury, but because he hasn't played football in a year and has never played pro football. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays only a few snaps come week 1 against the Giants and it may only be on passing downs where the responsibilities can be a little less (zone coverage or blitzing or working as a spy). Then by November he may see more and more time. Depends on a lot of things, in particular how well Hitchens is playing.
