In the last 5 games we are allowing 365 yards and 28 points per game? *** kind of nightmare defense is this? It’s a nightmare for us, the fans to watch. But it’s a dream for every OC in the league.
It's only in the last 2 games where the Defense has improved. Why not just talk about our 2 latest games where improvement has been made?

Given that it's a different defense that Quinn ran, growing pains were expected. They're actually more cohesive earlier than I thought they'd be as a defense. Yes, it's been against fairly meh teams, but let's hope it continues.

Bro I’m not a tanker. I think if you quit, you don’t deserve to have one of the top 2000 jobs in the world, which being employed by the NFl is. I’m happy every time the Cowboys win. But WTBS, there’s nothing about either of these wins that makes me say Zims defense creates a nightmare scenario for any team. It’s just not true. Is there a couple players that cause issues and the other team has to use as part of their game plan? Sure, there are exactly two. The others are all average.

Again, yes they have improved, and I’m glad. Yes, they are getting healthier, and I’m happy about that. But make no mistake about it, Zim and his 1990s scheme is as bad as any in the league and every team we play knows it.

Yes, they have sucked, but if you watched the past couple of games, they're starting to play better. I'm not saying they're a playoff capable defense yet. Just that they improved.
The defense nearly gave up the Washington game by allowing 17 points in the final couple of minutes. Only a miracle fluke of a missed XP preserved the win.

And then they let the Giants keep it close, and have one of their best outings of the season even thought they are tanking and playing guys off the street at QB. Any halfway decent team smears the Giants by 20 or more points like 33-10 or more.

Tap the breaks on both Zimmer and this defense. You'll thank me later.

I think there are some positives that we're seeing, but we have to see if they show up against a much better offensive team. So Cincy is a good test for the defense. It would help if we actually have Diggs back, so we see the defense with our top two corners.

The positives to me have been A) the play of the defensive tackles. This has been a much-maligned group, but we've seen Mazi show a little progress, Odighizuwa playing well and some good things from Golston. I'm not saying this group is great, but they've looked at least serviceable of late.

B) Zimmer's blitz schemes. Due to injuries, particularly to Parsons, and poor run defense, Zimmer hasn't really been able to unleash his pressure packages most of this season. We've seen a lot more of his Double-A gap blitz these past two games with offenses forced to focus on Parsons.

Definitely not close to perfect, but I think the rotation of whoever is healthy at corner hasn't helped. At various points, we've been without Bland, Diggs, Carson, Lewis, Oruwariye and now Butler. Not much any DC can do about that.

I think Zimmer is a decent enough coach, but I never understood the defense getting so much praise after the Giants game. Why was that? Because they got six sacks? Does that even matter when they gave up 20 to likely the worst team in the entire league starting a third string QB?

I'd hardly call our defense a "nightmare". Maybe a nightmare for the fans who have to watch them! LOL :muttley:
But seriously, they have improved a little over the last couple of weeks, but considering they were at the bottom statistically in most defensive stats, any improvement is a good thing!

I definitely agree they are trending in the right direction. I think it’s a combination of factors for why that is happening. Getting healthy players back, however some of those players were here at the beginning of the year when they D struggled. But we’re seeing improvement from younger players like O, Mazi, and Kneeland. I think The players are starting to better understand Zim’s D and Zim is starting to figure out the best use of his guys. Will JJ keep Zim, or does Zim even want to comeback? Time will tell, but I’m definitely interested to see what they do in these final games.

This is even more reason to consider Kellen Moore the next HC. Jerry can easily sell Kellen on accepting Zimm as his DC.

BTW....didn't Zimm say he needed some big NTs during training camp? If I remember he had a couple of huge DTs with the Vikes both with the last name Williams ( maybe I'm wrong ).
With the Vikings he had a prime Linval Joseph With the Bengals he had Donata Peko. He doesn’t play around about the interior of the line and stopping the run.

With the cowboys Zimmer has a bottom of the barrel NT(Mazi) a serviceable DT (OSA), a serviceable to below average DE (Lawson) and an all pro undersized LB playing DE (Micah). That’s what he has to work with. That’s what he has to use in stopping the run. Add to that he’s playing with a bottom half offense.

When the Cowboys offense is decent or the team manages to stop the run at a “decent” rate you get to see Zim dial up some nice pressures.

Sure, the 5 minute/prevent defense needs some work. But, it's pretty undeniable that generally speaking they have been much better the last two weeks.
With 5 minutes to go they've had 20-9 and 27-13 leads (and 3 points each game could be pretty directly be credited to the offense/special teams failures).

Not perfect, but better.

By all means let’s retain Zimmer: he has beaten Cleveland (w/o Chubb); the Giants twice (enough said): the Commanders (who gave the game to Dallas); and the outlier Steelers (w/o Wilson as QB).
But this is what Jerry does; he only works with those with whom he has a comfort level and can exert control.

You guys really are pushovers and gullible in thinking the Cowboys have turned the corner and are now in the elite status. Running into a team with a rookie QB and another with a Cooper Rush of their own tends to make you feel invincible and improving.

The ‘boys are in the bottom quarter of the league and destined to be there the way they’re headed. Get used to it and stop trying to gaslight the rest of us.
"a rookie qb" as if he wasn't in the early mvp talks and hasn't been the darling of the league.

I consider myself the defensive guy in here.....so.........I don't see it yet... I'll wait till we play the Bengals on Monday. IMHO...we haven't played a good offense yet.
wasn't washington leading the league in scoring?
