I thought Hurd forced and did recover that 2nd fumble.

He was talking about the other kick that was fumbled, but that Carolina recovered. Hoyte forced that fumble.

I've watched it a dozen times or so and it appears that Williams pokes the ball out.

Hurd reaches in but doesn't appear to get the ball. He may have the returner's arm that allows Williams to get it out.

There really isn't a great angle though.

Amazing what a FB can do for our running game. Lead blocking TE's just aren't as effective. They're too tall to maintain the blocks. FB's are squatter and lower to the ground ... great for maintaining a lead block and pushing a defender out of the way.

I'm a fan of the FB position.

Hoyte's listed at 6'-3", 250#. That's pretty tall, too. While leverage certainly plays a part, I think blocking has more to do with "want to" than stature.

Next time you watch it concentrate on #17, he doesn't even go for the tackle, he goes for the strip.

I understand what Hurd did on that play. What I'm saying is that if you look carefully, Hurd may or may not have gotten the arm but he didn't get the ball. Williams appears to have poked the ball out.

The thing that I really liked about Hoyte was his effort when the backs would get stood up, he would come in and try to push the pile...often successfully. The guy just played with alot more aggression than Polite. Being a LB shows he isn't afraid to bring the wood on blocking. Good move. I expect to see him situationally as a pass rusher as well down the road a bit. Looked good in Pre-season.
