Nice try, but no.

Child support/alimony are state issues, i.e., based upon local and state statutes. The lockout is a federal issue. No judge in their right mind will include the hundreds, if not thousands, of individual state cases, into the case. The debts of the individual players are not a federal issue.

The wives/children/players will need to petition the local courts for relief.

If the NFL loses in the court of appeals there is talk that the NFL owners will just shut down the league if ordered to start up a new League season. That way they avoid any Anti-Trust Issues. I suspect that if and until the players understand that employees mean employees, the owners will just let them get in the unemployment lines like the rest of America.

I dont believe in any way the league will completely shut down. The NFL can not risk the chance of the fan base leaving and getting disinterested. They will eventually sign a more player friendly deal with maybe a clause that allows them to revisit the issue in 5 years or something.

I'd guess within a day of Roger Goodell checking his Email. Sooner if he forwards his Email to the rest of the league owners.

Sorry don't buy the idea the NFL can simply just shut down the league if the courts order the lockout stopped. The courts could simply hold the NFL owners in contempt & severely fine them or even listen to an appeal from players that their contracts with individual teams should be voided making them all free agents. The issue for many players would be if enough of them wish to be free of their contracts. Strongly suspect many players might flee loser NFL teams, particularly located in small markets, to more competitive teams elsewhere, etc.

Also as some have already raised, can the NFL owners still pay their office employees, coaches, etc. legally.

The Owners can and probably will shut down and just go to Bankruptcy court where this can languish for years. Players will eventually lose.

You don't seem to understand that Courts can't stop Businesses from going out of business. This will go to bankruptcy court. Yes players under contract would be free to go anyplace they choose but if no NFL where will they go.... Better get used to college football this year...

I don't think the courts could stop the NFL from doing it, but the consequences would be most dire. The courts can declare every player a UFA. The courts can force payment of all outstanding debts and then seize assets from teams that didn't have the liquidity. When you go out of business, you pretty much entirely lose all control over that business's assets until all debts are paid. And I bet the significant majority of NFL owners do not have the liquidity available to honor all their debts.

What assets are you talking about.... Most stadiums are partially owned by the cities.... Owners will not have to pay anything from their private assets... There will be very little money to be paid to anyone except the lawyers and players who don't have guaranteed contracts will all be free agents but no NFL means the unemployment line or UFL for most of them.

You're joking right? From the equipment to the actual logos and intellectual property, we're easily looking at tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars of value.

There are several such stadiums but the teams still have a stake as well as operational control (and operational control of a $1 billion facility is worth something, even if you don't own it).

Technically, the City of Arlington of Arlington owns Cowboys Stadium, but that doesn't mean Jerruh has no financial stake in that building. He makes money when events are held there. And Jerruh's financial stake in the stadium is something which can be sold to someone else.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that this maneuver would be a permanent one. Don't be ridiculous. The NFL is not going out of business permanently. I think it is possible that it could happen if the Owners believe there is no other way. I guarantee you that the players if looking at a year or more gone will fold.
