Payton or maybe a college coach like Art Briles

agree with this.

I was actually quite relieved to see that Les Miles didn't get fired from LSU because I was deathly afraid he'd be on Jerry's radar and Miles is an idiot.
I like Briles, although not sure his style would translate.
Back when BP was here and Payton was the assistant a lot of folks here, including myself, were saying we should've made him the HC in waiting so he wouldn't leave and we probably missed out on another ring because of that mistake IMO.

Sean Payton is the only coach I can envision coming in, revamping the offense, and having immediate success. Anyone else and it's probably going to take awhile

Im torn between Continuity and a fresh start.......I believe Jerry will stick with Redball, but JUST IN CASE......who'd yall want to take over as HC? Im askin cause Im drawin a blank on names......I used to have names like Bob Stoops, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden in my head for our previous HC searches.....but they're all too old and/or irrelevant now.......only names that pop up in my head now are David Shaw from stanford and Josh McDaniels OC for New England...I liked Kevin Sumlin from TX A&M but not so much now with this recent QB debacle.......

I messed up the title lol, its what i get for drunk postin, but cmon, why cant we edit our own thread titles?

THERE ARE 500 COACHES ....

That money is paid either way. I'm not even sure the contract argument makes sense because it implies that Jerry would forego an improvement at the HC position just to feel like he is getting his money's worth from Jason Garrett. It also implies that Jerry would rather pay a little less and lose than pay a little more and win, which is likely the most nonsensical depiction of Jerry that anyone could ever come up with.

Couple scenarios:
Option A: Jerry pays $0 additional money, keeps Jason as coach, and the team fails to make the playoffs next year.

Option B: Jerry pays $5M more next year, brings in another coach, and Dallas hosts a playoff game next year.
Anyone here going to say that Jerry wouldn't go with B? $5M more is too rich for Jerry?

If Jason is in Dallas next year (and he's going to be), it's not because of money. If Jerry thought that eating Jason's contract and hiring someone better would make the difference, he'd do it in a heartbeat and wouldn't think twice about the cost.

The real reason Jason will stay is because Jerry can't imagine that there might be a better option because he's so infatuated with Jason.

Nonsense. Don't make me post his quote about the credit cards and Love Field.

He loves him some Garrett, but if Payton shook loose from the tree, not still dumping Garrett's contract AND paying Payton.

There is a fiscal reality to how far he will go.

Thing is "someone better" will cost money and that is what this is about almost as much as his affinity for Garrett.

I don't think Haley endeared himself to anyone in the organization enough to bring back, especially as a head coach.

I know that TO didn't like him but that's not a bad thing. What I like is his offense it Pittsburgh, Big Ben didn't like him at first but if you asked him now you'd probably get a different answer. I think that he can be an ***hole but that might be what we need at Valley Ranch, everyone's too comfortable there.

It only matters what Jones thought of him. He gave him a token interview and then let him go to Arizona.

And the question I asked was what that amount would be. If you think it's less than the amount it would take to add an additional HC contract to the books, that's fine.

I don't think that is the case.
