Hypothetical: Viable Replacements for Garrett

That money is paid either way. I'm not even sure the contract argument makes sense because it implies that Jerry would forego an improvement at the HC position just to feel like he is getting his money's worth from Jason Garrett. It also implies that Jerry would rather pay a little less and lose than pay a little more and win, which is likely the most nonsensical depiction of Jerry that anyone could ever come up with.

Couple scenarios:
Option A: Jerry pays $0 additional money, keeps Jason as coach, and the team fails to make the playoffs next year.

Option B: Jerry pays $5M more next year, brings in another coach, and Dallas hosts a playoff game next year.
Anyone here going to say that Jerry wouldn't go with B? $5M more is too rich for Jerry?

If Jason is in Dallas next year (and he's going to be), it's not because of money. If Jerry thought that eating Jason's contract and hiring someone better would make the difference, he'd do it in a heartbeat and wouldn't think twice about the cost.

The real reason Jason will stay is because Jerry can't imagine that there might be a better option because he's so infatuated with Jason.

There's a third option. Jerry has to pay a huge buyout and then pay another coach. Probably have to buy out assistants because the new coach will want to bring in his own. Evev after all that, we still don't make the playoffs.

I'm sure what you say about Jerry being infatuated - and very stubborn - when it comes to Garrett has a lot of merit, but from a business perspective, I can't see Jerry eating that kind of money. I doubt he sees bringing in another coach - even someone like Payton - would give us a much greater chance at success. He'd be more likely to go back to last season, where we went 12-4 and hosted a playoff game, and use that as argument for why the staff doesn't need to be changed. He'd have a point, too.

No. Just seeing him pretend to be Belichick with the Hoodie complete with cut off sleeves makes me nauseous. Plus, he basically set the Broncos back during his last disaster.

And he brought Spygate to Denver.. Bunch of cheaters..

Yea, its a mystery this funny thing called "winning" that people hope for

I hope to win the lottery but I also know the odds are extremely thin. Garrett just signed a new contract and Jerry is not going to fire him one year into that contract
Like the lottery, it could happen. But like the lottery the odds are so slim it's mostly wishful thinking

I don't hate nor do I love Garrett.
I preferred more emotional coaches as a player.

But I am fairly certain we could replace him without any real issues but also any real surge.

Guys I'd be interested in.
Payton -- obviously.
Jim Schwartz-- Defensive guru with ST knowledge. Need a strong OC in with him.
Hue Jackson-- Has coached lots of areas and as a walk-around HC I like him a lot.
Jim Harbaugh-- Hard-nosed guy would be a good change of attitude if you can coax him away from collegiate ranks.

What you don't see are first-timers. We lived with that under Garrett. No more on the job training please.

Payton, and I get excited again to be a Cowboys fan...there are others that would have a similar reaction, but I am not going to name names since it will NEVER happen...I assume that I won't be excited to be a fan of America's Team for another 5+ years, at a minimum, when Jones decides a retired Tony Romo can be the HC

This x 10.

We are the Dallas Cowboys. We deserve a coach that is already established as one of the best. Not some retread.

I'd take Mcdaniels over what we have because I believe he would actually attempt to beat teams instead of doing the same stuff week after week.

Garrett is not going anywhere
Why people think he is is beyond me

I 'think' he gets another year(which could turn into 10) but I am not 100% sure anymore.
Jerry is too old to lose like this.
Most times a team falls to this low of a win total and the HC pays the price.

If Jerry badly wants a new offense (and who doesn't?) he may feel the easiest way to get it is an all new staff.

Jim Harbaugh is a top 5 football coach on any level right now. If you could somehow pry him from Michigan, that's the hire to make, but I can't see him leaving after one year.

Aside from him, I'm a big David Shaw fan. Love the style of football he plays. He would be the perfect coach for the offensive line we have now. His teams are always big, physical and smart.

Draft a QB & a TE in the first 2 rounds.
Romo and Witten retire and become coaches.

Jerry goes on a 3 hour tour, and finds Jerry's Island with his skipper Larry Lacewell.
Stephen turns over the GM role to Troy Aikman. He shown he could choose TE replacements in David LeFluer.

Emmitt RB's coach and turns DMC into a 2500 yards season.
Irvin WR coach. Irvin and Dez often found in debates on the sideline, being overheard on game strategy on national TV, where ESPN continues to say they are selfish. In the meantime Odell Beckham continues fighting and ESPN says he is a passionate player and is good for the game.

Richard Simmons replaces Woicek as conditioning coach, and we go 10 years injury free. Hey, age catches up up at times.

The cheerleaders get a reality show, and grants a final spot on the squad to a lady that may not otherwise have a chance to make it. Hosted by ex reality show celeb that we can't remember the name of...I think he was a WR past winner...lol...

Or just stick with Jason for another year. As no other coaches come to mind. And no to college coaches. They rarely succeed. They won't get another Jimmy from colleges, just like the won't get another Romo as a FA.

Post of the thread..... Well done

Well, obviously, Dallas need a change of coach. It won't happen, but it should. At least we need another ofensive coordinator, someone who knows how to get the best from their players.
