When I was in the navy we had a term Sailor Proof. We tried to make a task for a sailor as easy as possible so they could succeed.

With picks 10,45,75 and 99
1. Take BPA in a position of need... Don’t get stupid..

2. No injury or Drug History

3. Do not trade up or trade down. Trading up means less potential starting players selected. Your picking at the top of each round so don’t dilute the talent pool by trading down for more picks

4. Come out the top 4 pick with 4 of these positions CB, LB,DT, FS and OG

5. Get players more interested in football than their brand.

6. the rest of the draft take BPA don’t matter what position. Trade up or down don’t matter.

like it all except for number 3....honestly, if the right trade down is there at 10 (say to miami for their 1st, 2nd and a 4th), it just makes sense. An extra pick or two in the top 100 could make a very big difference for this team. Also, there might be 5 qbs in the top 10 so going back to 18 you are still going to get a top 2 prospect at most positions....just food for thought, if the deal is right got to go for it.

If the Dolphins offer us 18 and 36 for a crack at one of those Bama WRs, we have to take that deal. We have sooo many holes on defense and the OL. We need to bring in a lot of guys and hope a few pan out.

Totally disagree on 3
I wouldn’t trade up at 10 but as the draft goes on and the price comes down it’s nuts not to go get the best players
We háve 10 picks and some will be wasted on guys who get cut in camp
I’d rather have 4-5 really good prospects than draft 10 times from what is there and end up with 3-4 not even making the team
I also don’t see the need at guard some do
McGovern played pretty well last year and Williams is still here
If a good guard is best player then fine but I don’t target a guard as a big need myself
You sure can sit still and draft a position
If you target safeties then you better be willing to go up in the second to get one
And I’d trade my extra 3-4 and a later pick to try and add another second to get quality players not quantity of players

I’d want more than just 36 to go down 8 spots myself
The chart says it’s a good trade but the quality of player at one of our biggest positions of need drops dramatically from 10 to 18
I see CB as a much bigger need than some
People say build the rush and it makes weaker CB’s better
While somewhat true there is no real impact DT you can get in this draft who’s gonna stuff the run and create QB pressure
That’s why no DT is going very early in this draft

According to the draft value chart most teams use, we would be getting the better of the deal. The only way we get more for the #10 pick is if one of those QBs is still on the board.

We might be able to move back up as well and still get the 2nd corner in the draft.

One rule. Go for quality over quantity because quantity has never worked for this team. That Dirty Dozen was 46 years ago.

This idea that the more picks they get, the better chance they get a hit is without evidence. That speaks to luck, not skill.

Excellent points.

I always live by the following on day 3. Multiple year starters, team captains, big schools. I prefer going with the 4 year starting middle linebacker at Iowa who was team captain over the one year Georgia southern guy who played receiver and is now a defensive end

Horn could easily be there at 18. But this team has no many holes all over the field........ 18 and 36 improves us a lot more than just the 10th pick.
That’s possible but the drop off after Horn is significant
I’d rather use our extra 3-4 picks, the latest of them with a 5th or 6th pick and maybe a future 3rd to get a extra second
I want two seconds too
I just don’t want to miss out on one of the two top CB to get it
CB is huge for us and even more now with Diggs having off field issue to deal with

We need numbers. Jimmy Johnson didn't hit on every draft pick but he made enough selections to cover his mistakes with good players. The draft is a crap shoot. You want to make as many picks in the top 50 as possible.

Dont sleep on an edge rusher somewhere in the top 100

that would be amazing

So is Sailor Proof the same as....it's so easy a caveman can do it.....:muttley:

Jerry needs GEICO or that EASY button from Staples. :lmao:

The OP demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding in how BPA relates to how each team builds their own board and the rules the war room folks play by. "Never trade up or down" is the epitome of ignorant statements made by fans that just don't get the draft strategy. To be fair, it's been my observation that many of the posters here suffer from the same affliction. CZ has a core group of posters that consistently show they get draft strategy commonly practiced by NFL teams so I'm thankful for them and you know who you are... I appreciate your contributions. But honestly, some of the posts here baffle me. I thank those of you that know what you are talking about for correcting the others of us that just don't get it. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

As for the OP... sounds like the Navy treated you with contempt. "Sailor Proof" is actually an insult because they had no respect for you individuals to pull together as a team and trust your training to get a specific task accomplished. It's poor leadership that would use that term. I hope you overcome that abuse someday and come to an understanding that followers are only as good as their leaders allow them to be.
