I actually think the OL is fine for the future!

Guyton has given up 2 pressures in the last 2 games…he’s gotten a lot better as the season has progressed.

He can clean up the penalties just needs to continue to get reps and put the work in.

Tyler Smith was a penalty machine his rookie year too and was in a fairly similar trajectory.
Tyler is a good comparison, both came into the league with physical traits and needed a lot of technical work. We need to stay patient.

In an absolutely perfect world we’d add a LT and C and move Beebe and Guyton to their natural positions and have a great OL. However, we have so many holes that doesn’t seem feasible.

Beebe can continue to grow into the C position and I don’t doubt we can replace Martin from within. Guyton/Steele/Richards still doesn’t make me feel great though. I feel like there’s a semi hostage situation going on where just because he was the 1st round pick there’s nothing to do but accept/hope Guyton is going to be a very good LT…and very good has to be where the bar is set, can’t settle for above average at LT.
I feel the biggest question marks are at both tackle positions. Guyton is a developmental prospect that needs reps, Steele's future is up in the air. However, we do have several internal options, Tyler has proven he can play Left Tackle although not his best position, Richards has been cross trained to play either Guard or Tackle and has looked good in limited snaps. Perhaps a low cost swing Tackle type should be added for insurance.

As for replacing Martin, he have Bass, Hoffman, Richards all with spot starting experience. Will they get exposed in a starting role? We need to find out before any replacement is needed.

If we get an above average starter at LT at the bottom of the 1st round that’s a home run IMO.

You know how many 1st round OTs aren’t even average NFL starters?

Yesterday was very encouraging, although it was against a very weak front, but they still played well with a bunch of backups. At one point, they didn't give up a single pressure!

-Hoffman plays with an edge. Something this line lacks. He can play either Guard or Center.
-Every Richards is in the game, you never here anything about him, which is a good thing for a young lineman. He can play all positions, outside of Center.
-Bass might be a better run blocker then pass protector, but he won't be a liability, either.
-We know Tyler Smith is our best lineman on the team and can play anywhere on the left side.
-Guyton has struggled throughout his rookie season, play has been better, but has to play more clean, has hurt the team with so many penalties.
-Nathan Thomas is a big G/T in their pipeline to develop.

Unless a blinking light falls in their lap, no need to force a pick for this positional group.

Also, a new OL coach with a more modern scheme will help.
You are down playing Guyton. The guy is a first time left tackle playing with a neck injury on an island. I have also noticed that all the premiere pass rushers seem to line up over Steele. The kid has his warts but the crap his getting from the board is bs.

The Giants front four will challenge our young line on Thanksgiving. Looking forward to it. Plus if we had a quality running back we would have had an easy 100 yards rushing yesterday.

For 2025 maybe. Im willing to give guys like Bass and Richards a look as starters. I think they will be playable at a minimum. However I want to see them innthe role for a full season before I say our future looks good there

Getting a RT is the bottom of the first is pretty solid. Heck Sewell is a RT for Detroit and he was a top 10 pick

I get that…but Im saying the position is too important to settle in general.

You could also say this about 1/2 of the positions. Drafting is difficult in general. But LT is for sure one of the positions you shouldn’t settle at just because you used a draft pick.

Not to mention we haven’t been in a position to draft a franchise LT in a long time. I haven’t really looked into the OT’s of this draft class yet to say if there is or isn’t going to be 1 available (early scouting reports aren’t great), but if you are in a position to draft what could be a potential franchise LT it should at least be in consideration. Especially with Steele being very much in question long term on the right side.

Above average LT play is not even close to settling IMO. We’d be getting a rookie contract for that level of play as opposed to forking out 15/20+ mil a year for average LT play in FA.

This OT class is not as good as last year. If OT is clear cut BPA at any point in the draft I’m 100% open to it but the top OT, Will Graham, usually floats around in the teens on big boards.

Exactly, need to see how they perform before looking for their replacement. Think new scheme also is important

Can he clean up the penalties? Sure, but he also maybe cannot, either. I'm looking at him the way he is now, not what he might become.

Like I said, he's a rookie, not dissing him, we'll see how he develops. Or not.

Half the fan base wanted to label Tyler S a bust due to all the penalties…he cleaned it up and I have faith Guyton will.

It's way too early to write off Guyton as the team's future LT, this is coming from a person who didn't like the pick last year, wanted Barton or the Oregon Center. He has elite traits, it's up to him to put in the work to get better. The good thing is he saw Duke right away and he has his line mates doing the same. People forget how bad Tyron Smith's footwork was when he arrived and he started at RT, his college position.

It's pointed in the right direction, we just don't know how they would play as full-time starters, but we need to find out first!
