So? Doctor's are notorious for not knowing much about the science of nutrition. Not saying that Eskimo doesn't, just pointing out that that gives me no more confidence (maybe less) that he does.

lol Yeah, Doctors are notorious for giving out bad advice about nutrition. I mean after all, one of the first things a Doctor has to learn is organic chemistry.

Eskimo is a very respected member here who occasionally gives input based on his training and knowledge. He doesn't just throw out info for grins sake. Feel free to list your qualifications so we can weight your info aganist his.

1. You were making your point using Gregory as the example. He was just drafted earlier this month.

2. The Cowboys have nutritionist available at all times. I've heard interviews with players where they talked about calling/texting the nutritionist multiple times per week.

3. Working out in NOT 80% out diet.

But a normal person on a diet of whataburger eaten whenever they like and have them work out 5 times a week. Then put someone on a diet of nutrient dense food eaten at specific intervals daily. Then track the body muscle and fat density over 6 months. Also track endurance, attitude, mental and emotional health.

80%.

He needs to put weight on and that's the quickest way. It's certainly not the healthiest way but he needs high calorie dense foods to put weight on. He has to start bulking quick because he'll lose weight during training camp. it's very hard to gain weight on a healthy diet. I'm sure Gregory will be consuming a lot of pizza too. You can put on a lot of weight with pizza, burgers and hotdogs.

Organic chemistry and nutritional school are not the same thing.

My personal knowledge comes from years of study. I also have a personal chef that prepares organic nutritionally rich meals for me 5 days a week. I literally live what I am discussing here.

I'd trust a doctor though before some guy on the internet that hasn't provided his bonafides.

Sure you might. But if you spent years studying nutritional science you wouldn't have to trust either.

You cannot understand nutrition fully until you can understand organic chemistry.

You might want to trying listening to people that know what they're talking about like the post from Eskimo.

It sounds like you've been listening to too many advertisements for nutritional supplements. Is Joe Weider's family still selling "muscle power"?

There are medical nutritionists. Your comments about organic foods sound more like a pitch from a food lobby than science. I'm more than happy to looking at the science regarding blood chemistry, training, and metabolism but nutrition 'science' is about as soft as it comes particularly once you start factoring in the supplement market.

I am not talking about supplements. Why do you need supplements if you are eating the right diet?

I can't stress this point enough. There is no such thing in the concept or idea that an athlete (or any human) "just needs calories." But especially in a game where every advantage can be huge, to pour millions into salaries and trainers and equipment and not also have the very highest level of nutrition (fuel) going into the tanks of your investments, makes no sense to me.

Nutrient rich calories are many factors more valuable than your average grocery store, cereal box and fast food calories. Its almost not even the same thing.

you're misunderstanding my point,,,, he can't eat all junk, and I'm sure he's not eating all junk. There are certain nutritional thresholds he needs to hit (specifically protein) and then he can have just about anything he wants to keep him in the surplus calorie column.

Why do you ask this question? I thought you were the expert. lol

Lot's of athletes use supplements as long as they are legal.

No what I am saying is - for example - is not all protein is created equal. The quality of protein in a whataburger burger is about as low grade as you can get. Compare that protein to high grade beef or Sablefish and its not even comparable. The effect on the body is not the same.
