I am over this defense and why I go offense in draft

The issue isn't necessarily scheme. The issue is that if you're trying to build a great defense you are likely to fail because you can't just target 1 position like you can on offense (QB) and defensive players get injured far too often. You might be able to make up for that with a wizard of a defensive coach, but we don't have that. And if you have a great D-Coordinator, he'll be snatched up sooner or later.

I don't disagree. I just think it's players first, second and third then coordinator.

With 3 defensive starters suspended for drug offense in past few years I am now switching my thoughts on this draft. I see two scenarios I would be in favor of now:

1. Draft Elliot #4 and if Lynch starts sliding past 15 then trade back up for him. Lynch upside is as good as Wentz and Eagles basically gave up 7 players to get him.

2. Draft Elliot #4 and Will Fuller ("vertical daddy") in 2nd round. Teams would have to commit a safety to account for Fuller big play ability and this would open up things for Elliot to be boss.

I can take some shots on defense with those extra compensatory picks along with middle round picks but it's time for offense to be the apple in our eye.

I agree, why not get henry too? we would be the talk of the nation !!

And Romo will be 37 next year without a defense and you will say the same next year and that is no rookie will improve this defense.

We've been trying to improve that crap defense for forever now. It's not happening. We just don't play good defense in Dallas.

you dont win playoffs games without atleast a middling Defense no matter how good your offense performs,

Are there any punt return specialists in this draft? Good lord I never want to see Beasley returning a punt again. I'd like to have someone where there's at least a chance for a big return every now and then. Think that's a big overlooked weakness last year

This is what happens when you fill the defense with 'reach' players who other teams skip over because of red flags.

W/o a QB you're nothing in this league. We seem to have a 50/50 split on the forum as to whether our current franchise QB will be healthy the next 3-4 seasons and see it as a secondary need instead of THE primary, etc. Trading back into the late 1st to gain another 1st for next year may help us in moving back up in next year, but won't be nearly enough ammo as we are assuming; look what STL/PHI paid to move to 1 or 2 from albeit from much further back than 4.;) We have to hope for some QB prospects next year to find the 10-15 range to even have a shot at one next draft or we can luck out and have the trading partner bomb, giving us a high and mid-late choice 1st rounders.

Or we can just take Lynch at 4 and grab Joseph in the 2nd and call it a "good" first 2 rounds w 1 day 1 starter and one to learn from Romo the next two years (fill in when out or go w/Moore) at the most important position on a team to keep you competitive in this league (long term). Might have to use one of our 4ths/6ths to move into the late 1st for Joseph w/all the recent hype around him. This FO doesn't know what it's doing in RD 4 anyway...what's the difference in using some of those picks to secure your guy?

Priorities have to be a competent back up QB and fill holes on defense. Everything after that is a luxury.

Of course they'll laugh. Those day 3 picks are reserved for special teams.

My point was he said defense.. "take some shots on defense with those extra compensatory picks along with middle round picks."

Theyll laugh at that period.

If JJ's goal, is to return to be as good as we were in the early 90"s...consider this...

As much as credit as was given to the Triplets, neither of them would have been what they were without a dominate offensive line. When that line started to falter or was absent, it meant the end of the Triplets.
Irvin's career ended because he had to go over the middle into the teeth of the Eagles defense and got slammed into the concrete turf called Veterans Stadium, because of his QB not having enough time. Aikman had to end his career because of the brutal hits he was taking both trying to stay in the pocket and the unfortunate times he was forced to run. (ie, LaVar Arrington). And Emmitt's career basically came to an end on a hit from Roy Williams while playing for the Cardinals.
We have the dominate line, we have an elite quarterback and receiver once again. The only piece that is missing...is a truly elite running back. Our team from last year paid the price for this 4th overall pick....NOW USE IT!!! He's our's...!!!

Sir, I nodded my head so much to your post that i felt I had drank 6 Guinnesses. Good job. And after the elite RB, someone to take the pressure and double coverage away from Dez. I'd rather have a great offense and a underachieving D than an above-average offense and an almost OK defense.

LOL.

So let's never address the defense?

The Baylor of the NFL.

Forgive the typo: At some point we need to get the defense into a Super Bowl ready one and we are almost there . . . OFFENSE, NOT DEFENSE. My mistake, bloke. But as to defense: I feel that IF we draft a high RB and WR then we can build the D in the offseason, the middle rounds this draft and the early rounds next draft and fish in FA. i just believe that an Elliott or Henry and a WR to help Dez will get us a Super Bowl ready offense. The defense we can work on later and next offseason if need be.
