That's something to be proven in the months to come, although, it would be a pleasant surprise to most of us. A 5th round pick like himself, would certainly comprise a nice return for the investment. He's a product of a fine Wisconsin background, so that, in itself, offers a fair degree of encouragement. :)

Many of us are seriously concerned about Tyron's durability heading into another season. Already heard that he was having back issues. Will they sign a veteran swing tackle to play when Tyron misses time again?

We heard Tyler Smith was going to be a left side player. All the reports coming out of the OTA practices that he is splitting reps at both positions. This suggests they believe he can already play Guard in this league, but they have bigger plans for him at Left Tackle.

In my opinion, based on what we have heard thus far, Tyler Smith will be Tyron's primary backup this season. In the event Tyron goes down again, they will just shift Tyler to Tackle and insert McGovern at Guard. This is the best way to keep continuity.

Heard this from Skywalker on Voch's podcast this week, Tyler Smith is expected to attend Von Miller's pass rushing camp. This tells us, Tyler wants to be great and is willing to do what it takes to get there.
we can only hope..i want to see him in preseason games etc..

I agree, would like to have Tyler just play Guard this season, but they keep on talking about his positional flex. McGovern/Farnoik are both working at G/C, they are expected to be our interior backups. Question is, do they want to move a player like Steele to LT if Tyron goes down or keep a player on the same side?
Position flex is good in an emergency, but a raw young player should focus on just one position.
They almost ruined Byron Jones with this flex business.

I think Ball and Waletzko will be due to get their share of reps on both sides of the OL. I've noticed in past clips that at LT, Tyson tends to stand straight up and not bend his knees at times, allowing DEs to get him off balance. I'm sure the staff will try to correct him but let's see how it goes. He's doing well at LG for now, so I would guess that they shouldn't rush him at LT in too much of a hurry. He needs to get his feet wet at LG first, imho. This staff is bad about switching guys too soon.
You tell um coach !

I think you're probably right. I just hope that is best for his growth. I'd prefer let him learn guard this season and not overwhelm him. As is I'm concerned about him playing guard if Tyron misses time, let alone tackle.

You have good suggestions, I am going to forward them directly to Jerry !

Thanks but -- that's like giving $10 for a bite of food to an alcoholic wino! I did that one time to an old printer I worked with. The next 20 minutes, when I turned around at the window, he was taking a bus out of town for parts unknown. It plays havoc with one's faith in human nature! :D

I think Farniok might surpass McGovern on the depth chart at OG in 2022 if Farniok doesn't beat out Biadasz at OC.

We own Farniok for 3 more years, and cheap. He should definitely get the push over McGovern if they're close. Invest in the future.

I've always been pushing for McGovern, but his time with the Cowboys is coming to a close.

It's what they should do. LT is Tyler's past and future. Letting his talent at LT rot so he can play a little better at LG is a waste. Especially true when we need a backup LT anyway. Keep him trained up and *improving* at LT so he's ready to step in when the time comes.

This is the time they do things in OTA's, mimi camps to see what player can do what and where. They will not address this until they get into TC, and maybe even not until after a week or 2 of practices.

Not concerned over this right now. A long way to go yet. Vet players will get released and they can then have options, as there aren't really any out there right now, that is better than they have.

- And likely bout that time, any leftover scraps left in the street would have been already picked over ...or it will have to be a late round trade for the best of the scrubs
on the back of teams depth roster.

- Count on this being a musical chair depth chart. We can only have so many players game active and dressed for play anyway. So it's likely to be the most
most versatile, ' flex " players with the highest grades.

- Don't be surprised if Ball and Matt Waletzko even see reps and time in camp at OG as well, in the game day active event.

- i can definitely see Tyler swinging outside to LT in a pinch, depending upon what he shows in camp. Steele at LT in a pinch is a possibility, that could be a
2nd option, but the club seems to want to see what Ball and Waletzko have to offer first.
Even if Steele were to move over to LT, Ball and Waletzko would still have to show up as reliable swing guys at RT.
