I agree with BrAinPaiNt and also add the program Malwarebytes...as Kilyin mentioned

It will get rid of the problem.

I removed all the spyware but I have two quickheal programs that will not uninstall from my computer. How can I reformat my hard drive?

Let me start by saying, you should know your limitations. If you don't think you are technically savvy enough to complete this I wouldn't even start. If you don't have an understanding of what is involved, you may end up having to take it somewhere like BestBuy and paying money to get it fixed anyway so it might be worth it to do so without wasting a bunch of time trying to do it yourself. I wouldn't even attempt it by yourself if you are unfamiliar with setting up your network and such after the reinstall is done. The reinstall of Windows itself isn't usually where people get stuck. It's trying to get stuff working afterward.

First I would read up on how on the internet. Hopefully you are using XP.

If not, do some looking around for Vista info. Shouldn't be much different although I don't know for sure. I haven't done a Vista reinstall in a while and I don't recall if the steps are the same.

One thing I always do first is access the System information from the control panel. Write down the types of devices and know what drivers you will need. Then I would download the drivers for the NIC or wireless if you don't have the disks still. If you don't have the drivers and Windows doesn't recognize the NIC, you won't be able to access the internet after the reinstall. You may also want the drivers for the display adapter.

Keep in mind, a complete refomat wipes everything. All your programs and files will be gone. Backup any files you have. Once you have reformatted, be sure to install AVG or Avast or some other virus software and scan your backup CDs before you copy the files back to your computer. If you are using Outlook, you may want to export your email to a pst file or something so you can recover it later. Also, you may want to export your favorites from your browser.

Basically, for XP put the Windows XP CD in and reboot. It should ask if you want to boot from the CD when it starts the boot process. If not, you may need to access the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD first.

When you boot from the CD it will basically walk you through the process. Personally, I would delete the current partition and recreate it if you aren't using some sort or RAID. Then in the format options I would choose NTFS but not the quick format. If you are using a RAID make sure you read up on it before starting any of this. I would really suggest having it done by somebody who knows what they are doing if this is the case.

From there it should run mostly by itself. You will need to answer a few more questions.

After the reinstall, be sure you can access the internet and download all the updates from Windows update, install your antivirus software and any additional drivers that weren't loaded.

This is really an overall view and may not contain every step involved.

Try a system restore 1st before you start over.

I'm not even going to attempt to reformat my hard drive and right now I don't have the money to take it anywhere. I'm just gonna have to limp around in safe mode and use the computers on campus. No more YouTube : (

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I understand that reformatting the HD is alot of work......

But I hope you tried to run those programs.....do u have a way to download those programs from another comp?......if so.....then u can put it on a usb stick.....boot up your comp normally.....install the programs and then boot in safe mode and run them.

Even after a system restore.....I would run a antivirus and maleware program to make sure its all clean.

I ran the malware bytes program that someone else posted and it removed several things except quickheal. I'll try those two programs that you just posted when I get home. Somehow I didn't fully download quickheal and I can't get it to uninstall from my computer so I don't know if this is malware or what.

When you say you can't get rid of Quickheal, do you mean you still see it running and generating messages that pop up on your screen, or do you mean you just see it in add/remove programs? If it's just add/remove programs, that is most likely nothing.

It still pops up with that stupid message saying it isn't fully installed and 2 other things that I can't remember. It does that as soon as I sign on to EI. It's also in the add/remove programs and won't budge.

Did you update it and full a full scan? And disable the system restore?

Google tells me that Quickheal is a real company, so how can they legally get away with infecting people's computers? I mean, if Microsoft planted a virus on your system which forced you to purchase their products in order to remedy it, there'd be hell to pay. So why is Quickheal still in business?

Probably not from this planet, it seems.

Just format your computer.

I realize that, but even Indians aren't immune from international law. This is basically hacking.

You're one of those idiot customer service people that always tells you to unplug your device and restart it to see if that fixes the problem, aren't you?

A lot of these rogue malware programs masquerade as legitimate software. It wouldn't surprise me if this was one of them, but taking it a step further and using a real application name.

Regardless, this is definitely not something you want on your computer.

Download this hijackthis

Save it to your C: drive and run it. Do a scan, save the log. You can paste the log in here.
