Dallas still owes Zeke $11 million. I don't think he will play for vet minimum.
It will depend upon how much he still wants to play and compete in the NFL ...as well as the team interested in him.
but he won't get big money to sign elsewhere, .. nor here.

- I' m not dismissing it either (Zeke returning here for cheap) McCarthy still wants that thunder (zeke) to go with his lighting (Pollard) ..and may prefer that kind of pairing
but seeing how slow and lumbering ZKE has become in even getting to the hole and edges- I admit that I would not be enthused.

- But as a goal line situational role, he would continue to give us an tremendous asset in that area, - Still so very lower boy powerful and a terrific knack and nose for the goal line.

You sound like a typical casual fan. I’m sure you were one of those who thought Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle combined would put up the same yards and TDs DeMarco Murray did the previous season. Those who thought that were wrong! All the backs we have to replace Zeke are downgrades. If the Cowboys miscalculate at RB like they did back in 2015 and we don’t have a back who can pick up the tough yards on some of these fourth down plays McCarthy likes taking chances on or can’t punch it into the endzone from 2 to 3 yards out, we’ll be having to trade for a big RB during the season. A back who can pick up those dirty yards on third downs is going to be critical. With our uncertain kicker situation, we can’t be settling for FG’s all day.
There's a reason nobody has signed him. He's washed.

I thought Dowdle did okay with his opportunities to run. Is it assumed he is done?

A big part of the reason is he’s not what he was and he still wants to get paid. He’s still better than the guys we have behind Pollard. If we need a critical yard on third or fourth down I trust him more than I do those other guys. He still put up almost 900 rushing yards and 12 TDs in 15 games.
