I can see us bringing Ezekiel Elliott back

You sound like a typical casual fan. I’m sure you were one of those who thought Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle combined would put up the same yards and TDs DeMarco Murray did the previous season. Those who thought that were wrong! All the backs we have to replace Zeke are downgrades. If the Cowboys miscalculate at RB like they did back in 2015 and we don’t have a back who can pick up the tough yards on some of these fourth down plays McCarthy likes taking chances on or can’t punch it into the endzone from 2 to 3 yards out, we’ll be having to trade for a big RB during the season. A back who can pick up those dirty yards on third downs is going to be critical. With our uncertain kicker situation, we can’t be settling for FG’s all day.
Good points. Zeke got a lot of 1st downs and short yardage TD’s.

Quite a few could average 3.8 yards per carry
I wouldn’t be so sure that when they’re asked to pick up 2 or 3 yards to move the chains or punch it into the endzone from inside the 5 yard line. Zeke was very good at doing that which is why he led the team with 12 TDs last season. He didn’t do anything flashy but he picked up some tough yards when there wasn’t anything there. He helped us keep some drives alive.

He also killed many drives. Point is. He is done. He hurts the team more than helps it. He shouldn’t be brought back.

I'd rather not, and it's not because I hate Zekes game. It's because I don't trust our coaches to utilize him properly.

Unless the luster has finally come off I think they'll over do it and he will be counter productive.

Zeke could still contribute but it's obvious once he's dinged he loses any remaining juice. Yet, we keep trotting him out there on the struggle bus.

If we resigned him I wouldn't want more than 8 touches a game or so. I'm not sure that would happen or go over well in the locker room.

There was nowhere for him to run on some of those plays. It was like running into a brick wall. Our run blocking last season wasn’t exactly stellar. Go back and look at some of the losses Pollard took on a few carries. Zeke clearly isn’t what he was, but he still can punch the ball into the endzone and pick up some tough yards. The backs we have to replace him haven’t proven they can do it. If we go into the season and find out they can’t we’re going to be in trouble! Plus there’s no guarantees Pollard returns to form after his injury. The back we just drafted certainly isn’t going to be pushing any piles for tough yards at his size. Some days there’s nowhere to run and you have to have a back who can make a yard or two when there isn’t anything there. Zeke missed a couple of games last season and still put up at least one TD in 10 games.

I honestly believe Zeke is done. In true Cowboys fashion, we overvalued a player far beyond what the rest of the league does and for far longer than the rest of the league would. TP should’ve been starting 2 years ago
Zeke was so terrible last year that virtually anything is going to be an upgrade. He had 90 yards in his final 50 carries. Stick a fork in him.
The run game is better just by Zeke being gone.
I don’t want Zeke back…his time here in Dallas is finished.
He's a has been
Spot on posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah no thanks on Zeke. He is washed.

Dallas still owes Zeke $11 million. I don't think he will play for vet minimum.
Where else bsides football can he make $1.165 million? (Vet minimum for a player with 7 years service). For playing part time?

Easy money, that's why....

I like Zeke and he can still serve a purpose in certain situations. He might even last a whole season if used around 8-10 snaps a game in short-yard runs…..at the vet minimum. I don’t want him back but if he does return, I won’t lose any sleep over it.

The Cowboys don't owe Zeke another red cent. You need to learn the difference between cash accounting and accrual accounting.

We’ll see how you feel during the season if his replacements are worse and we’re struggling to pick up a yard in critical situations. Some of you would rather have any back but him.
