I can't quite put my hoof on it

I know we Cowboys fans like to think next year is different and so forth. That said. I can't quite put my hoof on it, but something just feels different. Ever since the Quinnen Williams trade, it seems that Jerry has been more......focused?

Have you noticed that we haven't really had a lot of..... controversies this offseason? Even the Pickens stuff got sorted before it became a massive issue. We haven't really had any bad things or massive media headlines happen. Ironically, Philadelphia has been the d word (not trying to jinx it lol) capital of the division this year.

It feels to me like, maybe this is the closest I can get to what feels different, maybe the way that Parsons showed him up on the training table, the way the trade got panned, and how poor our defence was last year seems to have gotten something sparked in Jerry that I haven't seen in a while. You ever notice how sometimes a situation will happen where Jerry gets petty and tries to prove something? If that's what's going on, I hope he continues with it.

Either way, something feels more positive than normal. Something just feels, different to me.
We have had no drama this offseason it's quite refreshing. We have made good moves and no off the field stuff.

I saw it too. I've been trying to tell my football buds the exact same thing. Jerry was different after the GB playoff debacle. And we lost that much worse than the score indicates. We got slaughtered.

We've even conjectured that Jerry might be letting Jimmy make some moves. This offseason was simply so un-Jerrylike, I just don't think there's any way it was him making decisions. No other way to explain it.
I hear you. It seems likely that the GB loss was used by others to drive home to Jerry that the team was gutless and that some cancer needed to be removed and new direction taken. It seems crazy to say this but it does seem like Jerry has taken a back seat at least to an extent.

Yeah, and then the retooling the last couple seasons, and now the window seems to be open again. And the team looks to be more focused. The coaches seem to know what they're doing. They're not learning on the job. They're not running a soft camp. They clearly have a plan and an agenda. And we haven't seen that since Parcells imo.

I think that might be one of my favourite parts about this offseason. We actually assembled a coaching staff that knows what they're doing. How long has it been since we could actually trust that the coaches know what they're doing and that they clearly have a plan?

Maybe Jerry finally realized that one war daddy could not stop other teams. We were 28th that season w/ Micah, and GB drove the field unhindered w/ him playing. I'm not condemning Micah, not at all, I'm condemning the way this D was built. Or more like how it wasn't built.

Well, and that was the big flaw with Quinn. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that McCarthy and Quinn were bad coaches. But, for Quinn, there was far too much finesse and not nearly enough balance. I think the way Green Bay moved the ball on us shouldn't have been surprising considering how we had been getting gashed. When we lost (including against Miami), it was usually because we couldn't stop the run. And when you're frequently conceding 300+ yards rushing, you're going to run into trouble in the playoffs.

Contrasting to what it seems like Parker's strategy might be (based on roster construction), it looks like we are try to be more physical and balanced.

The moves started way before Parker. I think it's Schotty, and possibly Jimmy.

If it turns out that this perceived change in direction (I feel it too) is not a mirage, I think it traces back to the GB playoff game. Jerry's rhetoric began to change. Then he did something completely out of character for him. He cut bait on a superstar player that he himself had drafted. Jerry's personal wins from a GM perspective are few and far between and trading a superstar that he could take credit for as a GM is something Jerry just doesn't do.

The GB loss was as embarrassing as it gets. It also initiated arguably the worst media and fan frenzy of criticism that Jerry has endured, and that is saying something.

Jerry had to humble himself to get rid of Parsons, Lawrence, Diggs. He drafted them, he paid them. A guy like Jerry doesn't admit mistakes easily. Making those moves got my attention.

Easily the best offseason post-Johnson era.

Don't read this as if I'm throwing bouquets at Jerry. He's got a ways to go before that happens.
We don't agree on much, but you nailed it here

The thing about the change we have been witnessing is that how long in the making has it been going on? We can trace the origins of Jerry's issues back to the head butting he was doing with Jimmy. Can you imagine what kind of dynasty Jimmy would have built if Jerry would have let him by putting his ego aside? Ever since then Jerry has been trying to prove to the world that he knew what he was doing and that he didn't need Jimmy to succeed. Even winning the Super Bowl with Switzer didn't change the narrative of the fact that that team was built by Jimmy. So, for over the last three decades Jerry has been trying to discredit Jimmy and prove to everyone that he knows what he is doing, Maybe what we are seeing is that Jerry is emotionally tired of the inner fight he has been doing all these years, and it's taking Schotty with some help from McClay to persuade Jerry to step off his high horse and let go of the reins. I think it's obvious that most of the decisions are coming from Shcotty and McClay with some input coming from coaches. The way this team has been handling themselves over the last year or so is all businees and the big top has been taking down, and the circus has left town. I'm hopeful that it continues to trend that way, even after Jerry has passed on and Steven is learning a thing or two and decides not to do things the way his father has shown to be fruitless.

I will always believe that he blamed his core players ( leadership players ) for that loss. One that should have been an easy win; they read their clippings and did bother to prepare and it showed....big time. Notice how everything Jerry did (or didn't do) the next offseason seemed like he was punishing the players, even Dak. Also notice that all are gone except Dak and Lamb.

Jerry has been more......focused?
I'm not sure "focused" would be the word I'd use, but "motivated". I think it was the Micah trade that triggered it, actually. Once he realized he could get a sizeable haul for one player I think he started to imagine the possibilities. It was also fairly recently that he actually took a break from everything else in his life for a couple days to evaluate how they've done everything for the last 30 years, and it was then that he realized he had to make some strategical adjustments.

Fur sure, but yeah, and it's why I like how I think it was @Praxit basically described it as basically a mini Herschel Walker. Sure, it's not nearly the amount we got in return. But, the weapons that we've gotten for that deal have been great additions. That trade has given us an opportunity to reset and build a potential contender. Now, we just need to make sure RT isn't going to be a problem, keep penalties to a minimum, and try to avoid injuries.

it does at the moment seem like NGM is no longer as set on proving he is a real football guy that can build championship teams. IF that is the case, it took 30 years for it to happen.
A lot of possible factors; him realizing the Grim Reaper is approaching; just tired of taking the heat; frustration; who knows?

The two big questions are this: will he revert to normal and will Jr learn enough to hire a real football guy

And I think the Parsons trade/being disrespected by Parsons helps too. Either way, maybe we will finally break through

Something just feels, different to me.
