Did you hear Stephen last night? He basically said he wants the extension done “sooner rather than later.” His words….
Not going to spend 200 million when they just traded for TL.

Dak is going to be replaced.

It’s going to happen.

Nothing to do with Lance or even about rocking the boat or challenging Dak, but doesnt it feel like Jerry went rogue and made this decision on his own? I watched the videos and while it was obvious Dak and McCarthy didn't know this was coming, I'm not 100% sure that Stephen or Will McClay were involved either.

Starting to feel like a T.O. trade., who was not a bad acquisition but one that clearly undermined the authority of the coach. I'm wondering if this move might end up being the straw that breaks the McCarthy era.
If someone went rogue I wouldn't think it was Jerry. More so Stephen. I feel everyone was behind this move.

Oh its for sure happening. They can't take a 59 million dollar cap hit. But I guess if they suck this year they may be willing to blow it up.

Jerry could have done this in hope that next year Lance would be able to challenge Dak. If that happens (seems like a pipe dream, right now) Jerry wouldn't necessarily have to extend Dak's contract and just let the contract run out.
.
Who knows... anything is possible why he did it.

Tell me what that looks like this year, what exactly does replacing Dak in 2023 look like for this team and its cap moving forward? I'm not even talking about how silly it sounds expecting Trey Lance to outplay Dak right now just money wise show me a apath.

All is speculation at this point- except we got a former number 3 pick that is 23 yo and has a skill set but just has not played enough football during to injuries for a late 4th round pick that will likely be somewhat offset by a comp pick or two.

There is so much upside here
Agree.

Jerry doesn’t have to pay Dak 200 million on an extension.

The decision has been made.

Move on from Dak.

It’s happening.

You guys are forgetting that Dallas scouted Lance a ton during that draft. I remember reports coming out talking about Dallas trading up to get him out drafting him if he fell to them.

It's not like they had no information on Lance and Jerry just did a drunken trade.

I think Lance is going to be a starter in this league and play very well. Depending on the Dak contract negotiations, Dallas will get a high draft pick by trading Lance or a high comp pick after letting Dak go to free agency.

It's a win win for Dallas. For the life of me I don't understand the hate/dislike for this trade
It’s likely the 49ers had more information on Lance than the Cowboys. Based on what they knew they traded him for a 4th round draft choice to a team in their conference.

Help me understand your optimism. He has started less games than Rush with a .500 record. He was so bad he couldn't win the third string job on the team he has spent his entire career. He's going to come in & master a new system & get into such a groove with the players that coaches are comfortable with him as the #2 all while only getting limited snaps because the trade occurred at end of camp\pre-season?
Dallas new offense is a lot like what Lance did in college.

I've heard from 49ers fans that were at their training camp say Lance outplayed Darnold but with the drama between front office and coaches over Lance it was causing issues.

Rush isn't good. People point to his 4-1 record last season but that was all because of the defense. The offense was putrid with Rush. I don't get the love for Rush.....I 100 percent think he can be upgraded and Lance has all the talent that Rush don't have. Lance can be a high end playmaking starter. Just needs to develop and McCarthy is known to help with QBs.

You can cut Rush right now and nobody will pick him up. They have done that before but if you cut Lance he will be picked up immediately. Heck other teams tried to trade for him, wasn't like Dallas was the only one.

You mean a team they have completely owned the past 2 years in the playoffs. They aren't scared of Dallas, especially knowing Dak will not be unseated by Lance

Keep dreaming buddy……this front office loves Dak more than a 20 year old escort.

Any Cowboys staffers in here? Sure seems everyone knows how the organization runs. Nothing wrong with conjecture but maybe don't pretend it's anything more.

Lance is here as someone to possibly take over the reigns after Dak. I feel like they want Dak in the organization in some form or fashion and they are giving him a taste of coaching. They probably extend him for a couple of years, have him mentor Trey Lance in the meanwhile. If there's a spark there, then they will shift Dak over to being an OC and have Lance be the new QB

Listening to Jerry it sounded like his goal was to make the deal before SF got on the phone with someone else. There wasn’t time to talk it out like a committee. This was pure deal making, plus he would know the draft grade they had them and what coaches thought of him coming out of college. I don’t know why he’d need to talk to everybody to get a 1st or 2nd round talent to replace your 3rd string QB.
