I don't think Dallas can lose Murray

Mid-season I thought Dallas could just plug-n-play most RB's and have success. Shame on me for being simple minded about it. The trickle down effect of Murray style and production is sole reason we are talking about a healthy, upright Tony Romo late in Dec. I almost feel Dallas needs to bite the bullet on Dez and sign long term deal and use franchise tag on Murray. Franchise tag on Murray would be cheaper than one placed on Dez. Just wish Dez would be reasonable here because Dallas has something here. Below are attributes I think Murray brings. If you know of another FA running back to brings this to table...please share.

What makes Murray special:
* He is young (26 years old)
* He is big (6' 218 lbs)
* He plays hurt (starts a game 6 days removed from surgery)
* He is punishing runner (this sets tone for entire team....does Randle give you that sense?)
* He is good at picking up blitz (this might be his best trait when tied to Romo back situation)
* He has good vision with adequate speed

I think there is a better than 50/50 chance

If anything, I think the last couple of weeks have shown that we can survive without him. He's been pretty ineffective the last couple of weeks, and we haven't missed a beat.

Chances are 50/50 that we keep him and 50/50 that we let him go... If I was GM offer him 4 years 20 mil. If he don't like.. Test the market...

DeMarco Murray is good at everything while being great at none of them, IMO.

I respect the team reportedly having a financial line in the sand it will not cross in order to keep the running back.

If a long term deal isn't agreed to with Dez Bryant, the franchise tag will tie up a large amount of our available cap space. That will make it difficult to also spend big on Murray since the defense will need attention as well.

Murray's had a great season, he deserves to get paid.

I don't expect it will be by Dallas.

It shows how much attention other teams are putting on him and in doing so it opens up big passing lanes for Dallas to attack.
Is that Murray, though? Obviously defenses respect our running game, so no disagreement there.

Very good RB. Great teammate and obviously well-respected by players and coaches. I think they'll make a fair offer. If they do decide to let him walk after failing to reach an agreement, the team IMO must address the position fairly early in the draft(2nd-3rd RD).

love Murray, LOVED the pick when we drafted him, but I will be the first to say he leaves a LOT of yards on the field. He frequently cuts into traffic after a few yards gain and initiates contact when he could bounce it outside and rip off another 10 or more. He should've had 2-3 TD runs instead of 1 against the Colts.
I think we can get two more good years out of Murray if we so choose to pay for it but I would drop him like a bad habit if AP becomes available. Also, I think Melvin Gordon, a healthy Todd Gurley, and possible even Coleman from the next draft can more than adequately replace Murray.

They'll have to. Our backups are untested. I'd hate to ruin a good thing here.

I don't want to lose him, but he's not cost effective. Even $4 mil a year is a lot for a RB. We can snag a cheapo plug and play RB in the 3rd round.

There are tons of quality RB's in the league.

I think it is very much Murray, Yes line is doing good but then Murray avg 5 yards a carry since he has been in Dallas. I don't think he gets the respect by some here, he gets a lot by those who cover the NFL especially many former RB. In the colts game he has some good runs but for the most part was bottled up because of the stacked line but I also saw some very good blitz pickups by Murray in the game. He is an all around back not a 1 trick pony

Murray's always been a solid runner, but has had a history of injuries. He's having an unbelievable year, but this is a contract year, and on top of that, runners rarely repeat their historic years. I'd offer him a solid contract, but nothing out of the park.

He's playing hurt with his left hand. Besides, teams are still playing 8 man in the box which forces single coverage outside on Dez and Co.

One thing that the OP forgot on the list is that Murray still demands respect and changes the defense's scheme to play against the run. Barely does that happen when Randle or Dunbar comes in to relieve him. Murray whether he runs the ball or not, is a game changer.

26 is NOT young in RB years. He will likely start a steep slide in the next year or two. I'm a big Murray fan, and hope he sticks arounds, but he's not young.

He is not old either, Lynch, Foster Charles are all older than him and still going strong. He is not going to drop in a year or 2.

If Demarco is too expensive than we can draft a stud out of this class. If Gurley is the bpa when are on the clock I say jump all over him. He is big and physical and has that extra gear that is rare for a back that size. When the run game would be even more dynamic with him. He does come with the injury ref flags but he is a once in a decade back IMO.
