One of the things about soccer that frustrates me in this country is the widespread ignorance about the sport. I have no problem if you hate the sport with all your existence... not a problem with me. But do it on correct assumptions, yeah? Most of the things I've seen in here kind of echo what I've seen elsewhere... incorrect facts, willful ignorance driven by hate... and this looking down your nose at the sport because its not as hard-hitting as football in the US.

My question: why are we even comparing the two? Why do they need to be compared?

I'm sure I won't get an honest answer because this is the interwebs and people can say anything, but there is no freaking way these people that hate the sport have actually seen enough of it to make informed criticism. Because if you people did watch it and actually knew what you were watching, you'd recognize and respect the severe amount of athletic skill is required to be a top-class performer in the sport. You might hate what you were watching, but you'd at least be able to understand the immense amount of planning, training and skill that goes into scoring chances.

Football is such a great game because it's the ultimate team sport. Those who love it understand it as such and that's quite a humbling thing to go through, putting your ego and own self desires aside for the best of the team. It also teaches great aspects of life such as pushing yourself even when the chips are down or you're banged up and hurt. And it's not just a game of a bunch of big jocks beating the crap out of each other, it's often incredibly scientific, artistic and schematic.

In many respects it reminds me a lot of golf even though golf is about as individualistic of a game as one can play. But it tells a lot of truths about the deep down personality of the player. It screams their assets, their flaws and their soul as a person.
