Would it surprise you to find out that that was Ware indeed who vacated that hole that Cartwright ran through for his only significant gain of the game? Would you come back to apologize for not knowing what you're talking about when you realized the truth.

Will shiningstar own up for being an idiot and piggy backing on a false assessment if he ever finds out?

No bc they had several big gains and a lot of those came against spencers side. As well as the big pass that was solely on spencer. Yes I would apologize but I'm not incorrect on most of my post. This was one of his weaker games supporting the run and he gave up a huge play on cartwright against the pass. Try to stay classynewnation. You assume you know more than others and then call another member an idiot in the process. Grow up.

He got beat on 3rd down a couple of times against the pass. That's for sure.

But they only had one significant run play and that was the one on Ware's side. They had no other run plays outside on our defense. How can you possibly say it wasn't one of his better games against the run when I've watched the plays and he supported the run like he always does.

In pass coverage, yeah. He had that one to Cartwright that he snuffed out, forced to play to be delayed and Jenkins just missed the tackle. Then he had the one over the middle that he blew when Brookings blitzed. I'm I missing any other ones?

And I don't believe you have any legitimate gripes about his run D in this game.

Let's just face it. DeMarcus Ware is the king of the pass-rush between the two outside linebackers but Spencer is better in coverage and on the run. He's a beast.

He wasnt brought in to "kiss the qb" he was brought in "to get the QB and bring his butt down". But we got fans whos hoping he'll get it. You know, if it was flag football, hes your man. But its not right yet. ITs football and that means sacks help create turnovers, thats not what hes getting.

Pressure creates turnovers, not sacks, although you can create turnovers in the PROCESS of creating a sack.

You know, you can say that sacks are better than pressures and you would be right, but pressures leading to incomplete passes are still a loss of a down, hitting the QB repeatedly and making him jumpy and less accurate leads to incomplete passes and ints.

Being excellent in coverage and stopping the run before it can get going are big assets. Spencer has been a huge upgrade over Ellis in everything EXCEPT sacks, so I'm willing to be patient there.

I don't give you him being better than Ware against the run, I just don't..Ware had a rare whiff this game, but usually you don't expect to see guys running at him pick up more than 1-2 YPC. Hes that good.

On coverage, there is no contest. There are a number of times this year that I've seen Spencer in coverage and wondered for a second which CB that was covering the guy before I noticed it was him.

Not to pop any balloons...

1. Catching a ball that bounces your way is not a big time play. The star on that play is none other than Stephen Bowen. Bowen gets 90% of the credit.

2. An OLB in a 3-4...75% of his job is to rush the passer. Though he never gets doubled Spencer hasn't done it...ONCE in 10 frikkin games!!!!!

3. The guy is a first round pick in his 3rd year.

4. Until Spence shows me the money you all need to quit being pathetic apologists for an underachieving player. He ain't Barbie Carpeter but he ain't getting it done. It's so bad that Wade often essentially game plans Spencer out of the pass rush equation.

ChocLab....I used to enjoy your posts so much. What has happened with you lately? Concussions? Girl friends?

It's been three seasons since we used a #1 pick on Spencer. Since that time

Greg Ellis has 20.5 sacks
Anthony spencer has 4.5 sacks

Greg did whine enough to force the Cowboys hand in trading him but that guy was respected more in the locker room than Anthony and as I recall Spencer had an off-the-field issue-------something Ellis NEVER had.

In his defense, He's getting CLOSE". Believe me, i agree wtih you and IF IF we had a guy who could seal the deal when he got to the QB, all the posters in here would have pictures of the guy on their computers. Bottom line, Spencer is a first round pick playing like a 4th round pick.

I don't know who you are, unless... Is this Oldschool?

I stick by what I said. Ellis did one thing: He got sacks, the flashiest statistic. He was lousy at everything else a 34 OLB has to do, which is playing the run and covering. He also whined about his contract and complained about his role on the defense, even going above the coach's head to Jerry -- which is inexcusable.

Spencer is just the opposite. He doesn't get the sack numbers, but he plays the run well, can cover, and is just an all-around solid player. You also never hear a peep from him as far as complaints go.

I will take the latter player every day, just like I will take this workmanlike 2009 team over the flashy 2008 Hollywood Hard Knocks team.
