There aren't going to be a lot of guys wanting to pick up and move to Dallas knowing they could be moving again next year when MM gets fired.

I think this can go two ways. I think BigMac gets more years if we have a good season. The only variable in play is Belichick. If we have an average season, and Bill is available, that's where Jerry is going. Otherwise I don't see us moving on from Fat Mike.

I was replying to your reply about a different GM wouldn't have any of very few winning seasons...ie better draft position vs winning 12 games and having a choking QB give you an early exit..with a crappy draft position.

IMO, we are OK at DE and mostly OK in the secondary. But we SEVERLY need 2 run stuffing DTs and 2 ILB.


I like our corners and Hooker at safety. That other safety spot is a bit suspect though.

I like our DEs; I include Parsons here, not at LB.

We have 4 DTs on the roster: Hank, Osa, Gallimore, and Mazi. This "COULD" be a good group, but it hasn't worked out. Mazi is simply slow and we decided to have him lose so much weight that he is no longer an effective run stopper. I still have hope for him though. Osa is a classic 3-tech; great against the pass, but too light against the run. Hank is the opposite of Osa; great against the run, but everyone is genuinely surprised if he makes a play vs the pass. I don't know *** is up with Gallimore. So much potential, but nothing seems to show up on the field.

LB. Good Lord, what a hot mess. Officially, and I checked today, we have 5 LB on the roster: Parsons, Clark, Overshown, Vander Esch, and Buddy Johnson. Since Parsons is a DE, Vander Esch is probably retiring, Overshown is injured, and Clark is still recovering from his injury; that leaves us with 1, repeat 1, uninjured Linebacker.

Our FA and Draft focus has to be on LB, DT, and OL. Has to be. I still feel like we blew it last year by ignoring the OL when we had VERY solid guys standing there with our first two picks. Had we taken them, we probably would be talking about how OL is a team strength.

That same coaching staff and executive staff were there for the three 12-5 seasons also. You need talent to win a Super Bowl. The Cowboys have very little of it.

I just can’t see Jerry going Belichick. The way he will see it is that even if they win, he still loses due to his incessant need for “credit.”

What this team honestly needs is to let Jerry’s time on earth expire, the kid probably tries to keep things the same for a while thereafter but by that time the drought is closer to 40 years, and just maybe he finally caves and hires an actual qualified football guy to run ops, and find the next Shanahan, McVay, etc….and go from there.

I have absolutely NO confidence in Jerry and his kid to find a capable coach.

Other than the Hail Mary they may have for this upcoming season, I’ve pretty much already written off the next five or so. That’s why I don’t mind Zimmer. This has to completely implode before it will have a chance to get better.

I can't name any defensive players not corners that I'd be thrilled with if I were coming in as DC. You have an aging Tank. I don't count Micah because he's just everywhere all at once. So, I can't count on Micah at MLB.... Our defensive tackles IMO are all bad. Hankins maybe savable. Other linebackers. Bad!! Safeties have a few "young" guys I think "could" be good. Sorta disappointed with our free safety guys. Hooker etc. Wilson if he'd be my enforcer I'd leave him in there at strong. But anybody anti-Dak better hope he can score point's early in the season because I don't see the defense starting quick next season. Going to be offense or bust -early. We need to draft a DT. Trade for a DT. Draft LB-trade for LB. Put Mazi at a McDonalds stall and say " eat all you want-buddy" Get him back up to 340. I think even if you do all of this. Going to take awhile for this to jell into a good defensive unit. So, patients is going to be the rule on defense here. I'm just hoping I can finally get a Baltimore type defense-finally!!!! I hope. But it's going to take a re-build. It's not there now.

This is a great job opportunity.
We have one of the best Edge pairings in the NFL in Tank and Micah.
Micah is simply one of the NFLs greatest talents (and I've been hard on him in previous posts).
You have Diggs and Bland who are turnover machines, and one of the best CB combos going.
Solid safeties, a few pieces at IDL (Osa is a good player, Mazi still has upside etc, Hankins can help)
A few pieces to fill in, namely LB, Slot CB, IDL, but overall, there is a lot here.

I agree with you that the best ways to address the holes in to be bring in a FA AND draft a guy.
Personally, I'd go OL in Round 1, IDL in Round 2, and LB in Round 3.
Several good DL projected in Round 2, and I LOVE Eichenberg in Round 3, were he there.
Sign a guy like Jewell or Cashman, and along with Eichenberg, LB becomes really solid.
Same thing at DL. A vet like Reader or even Harris, and a draft pick (one of the Texas guys, Hall from Ohio St, someone like that), and DL could really improve. Keep your strength at Edge and Corner and this could be a really good D.
Stop the run and this D can be special.
Also, yes, MM is a lame duck, but someone who comes in and does well with the D has a good shot at being the next HC.
I like Vrabel for this reason, but that's just me.
