10 PLAYERS IN NEED OF A BIG OFF-SEASON
WR Terrell Owens: He needs to make a good first impression on his coaches and teammates. And remember, he missed the final nine games of 2005. He could use the work.
LT Flozell Adams: Much of Jerry Jones' optimism comes from having a healthy Adams back on the field. His rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament is on schedule. With Adams, the Cowboys can be a top offense. Without him, they struggle.
OLB DeMarcus Ware: He has been told to get up to 260 pounds, about 10 pounds heavier than he finished last season. He does not believe it will sap him of quickness, and the bulk will help him stand up to the run.
RT Rob Petitti: He started every game as a rookie, quite an accomplishment for a sixth-round pick. But he needs to get stronger in his second year, and he remains the starting right tackle with the Cowboys not signing a veteran yet.
DE Chris Canty: Whatever the Cowboys got from him a year ago was a bonus because some teams were afraid an eye injury would keep him off the field for good. He needs to get stronger to handle the rigors of the 3-4, but the Cowboys have a long-term answer.
LB Akin Ayodele: He was signed to a five-year, $17 million deal last week, but he will be playing a foreign position: inside linebacker. His off-season will be filled with weights and running, but also plenty of film work.
CB Anthony Henry: Groin and abdomen injuries ruined what was a terrific start to his Cowboys career in 2005. He is a big, physical corner but needs his legs at 100 percent to perform at his best.
RB Julius Jones: His injuries have not been a result of poor conditioning, but Jones needs to be as strong and as flexible as possible heading into his third season. He has shown he can be a dynamic player, and the Cowboys need him in a big way.
C Al Johnson: He is tired of hearing about his lack of size and is gaining weight and strength so he can fend off Andre Gurode for the starting job. Johnson is better at making the line calls and recognizing fronts but will be pushed.
WR Patrick Crayton: He showed signs of being a difference maker last year before an ankle injury. He was not the same player when he returned, causing Bill Parcells to wonder where Crayton is in his development.
