I feel this needs its own thread (drafting a WR related)

How bout this for logic - the colts won a superbowl without a first round pick at Corner Back. Therefore, you shouldn't draft a CB in the first.
How about this for logic only four quarterbacks drafted number one overall in the 41 year history of the Super Bowl era have led a team to a ring.

They are: Terry Bradshaw, John Elway, Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning who were drafted in 1970, 1983, 1989 and 1998 respectively.

So by this trend teams should quit looking for a franchise QB to go number one overall, it is a waste of money except for once a decade.

So what? A lot of teams have first round pass rushers that haven't won a superbowl. Terrell Suggs is a terror. No superbowl for him thus far. How about Javon Kearse? Nope, no SB for you. Logic > this thread.
What I'm saying is their are teams with #1 receivers that don't succeed.i don't know who's the blame.the qb or the receivers

There are teams with first round everything that don't succeed. That isn't a good reason not to draft a WR.

Balance is the key, New Orleans doesn't have great wideouts but they had smart schemes last year that took advantage of an intelligent quarterback with good runningbacks and above average wideouts.

Look at New York for an example of poor balance.

exactly they have a great qb Brees is the man. Some qb's need great receivers and some receivers need great qb's. it's 50/50 imo

would a specific application apply in a discussion of merit of a selection....

Picture this....the two wide outs for Dallas being Terry Glenn and Ted Ginn, Jr., with Patrick Crayton and Terrell Owens in the slots....problems for opposing defenses? Throw in a pesky tight end, Witten, and with a dominant offensive line, things would be developing....and play action, screens, and trap blocking could re-emerge, causing defenses to dig in instead of exploding out....

What could a wide receiver do....let's see, if you develop that target group third or fourth rounder, implications are that he will be productive down the road...so, just start retiring the old players now, and give the kid a chance...right-:bang2: Could also be, that if you draft top speed receiver talent now, he can be used, and still develop towards being a true #1 receiver in a couple of years....I'll take Ginn right now, Scotch, or what is at the bar.....:

There are 8 2nd rounders and only 6 first rounders on that list.

Draw your own conclusions.

Where their QBs were drafted...

Patriots - 6th Round
Jets - 1st Round
Colts - 1st Round
Chiefs - 8th Round
Chargers - 1st Round
Ravens - 1st Round
Seahawks - 6th Round
Cowboys - Undrafted
Eagles - Undrafted
Saints - 2nd Round
Giants - 1st Round
Bears - 1st Round

Hey, look, it's not necessary to draft a QB in the first round either!!! Pretty soon we'll have eliminated every position from the draft. We won't have to draft anyone to win!!!! Maybe this is how the Commanders organization came to their current policy towards the draft. Congrats, you are now as smart as the Commanders front office!!!

Detroit sucks as a team and the WRs except for Roy Williams, who they spent a 1st on, suck too

1st round WRs aren't key to winning a Super Bowl, but it doesn't hurt to have them when you are pretty good across the board

It shouldn't matter whether the Boys use a first round pick to find a young WR to eventually replace the big two....but they do need to find someone and it probably needs to be in the first three rounds. I am sorry, but I highly doubt the collection of seventh rounders and college free agents littering our roster are not likely to be the long term answers.

actually out of 12 teams 6 of their QBs were first rounders. I dont see how you draw the no QB in the first round thing.

The WR stats show somwthing completely different.
