I said it after the draft...and still stand by it...this off season had been nothing short of a disaster.
The only thing this team did right was let go of Zeke and Anthony Brown....
Losing Kellen was a monstrous mistake...
Letting McGovern walk...mistake
Not drafting a RB earlier than the 6th round...mistake
Not finding a kicker.....mistake
Not moving on from Dak.....mistake
Thinking Tyron will make it through a season...mistake
Letting Schultz walk.....mistake
Thinking Gilmore and Cook was enough work in free agency...mistake
Sitting on this roster...no roster turnover...mistake

It's as if they think this team is complete...while the rest of the league continues to churn the bottom of their rosters...player acquisition is 24/7/365....this organization....has the least transactions of any franchise....which tells me....this team is lazy when it comes to scouting.....another mistake.

Say what you want....but Jerry's 0 for nothing without Jimmy....speaks volumes.
And you said Kellen Moore was the next Roger Staubauch. So there’s that.

1. We need to see how Waletzko and Edoga perform. Farniok as already shown he can fill in on the interior.
2. Deuce can play. I don't think he can carry the load but him and Pollard splitting carries would go a long way to keeping both of them healthy. One of Davis, Jones, or Dowlde steps up and we are fine.
3. I don't really have these questions. I saw last year how he could not plant off his left leg and was rounding his routes as a result. His cuts look sharp in practice now.
4. I guess but I am not concerned about Gallup. We do need Tolbert, Turpin, or someone else to step up.
5. Between Ferguson, Schoon, Herdershott, and McKeon we have 4 TE who can play and a top 100 pick at the spot. They might only be TE2 or 3's but given that there are only about a half dozen TE1 in the whole NFL I think we will be okay.
6. Again, we will see. Fear of the unknown is all i see here. MM is not a neophyte and he has been with the club for 3 years.
7. This indeed could be a problem
8. I don't know about big. His pick totals for the other 6 years are what they are and they have noticeably been working to improve on top of that.

And as for last year, we had Tyron Smith tear his hamstring and our rookie OT who the usual suspects were telling us was a huge reach had been working at OG.

LG was a big question mark.

We had no WR2 and were starting Houston and Brown.

At LB we had LVE who was still hesitant taking on blocks post neck surgery until week 6 and a bunch of marginal players.

At S Hooker and Wilson had no stepped up.

We had poor DT frontline and depth.

We had a new and unknown LS.

This year most of our questions center around depth. The Dak angst is nothing new and the issues we had last year were gaping holes in our frontline.
Good post, Fuzzy. We still need to get a beer or coffee sometime if you're still in the ATX.

Defense looks good. Quinn has earned my trust. But this offense? Man, there are just too many question marks to feel good heading into this season:

1. Questionable OL depth, and now Zack Martin drama

2. Questionable RB depth behind Pollard who has questions about carrying a full time load and recovering from an injury

3. Gallup has questions about his recovery from last year

4. Questionable WR depth behind Lamb and Cooks

5. No proven TE1 and a gimpy 2nd round TE with plenty of questions

6. New offensive scheme and play-caller who ended with huge question marks his last couple years in that role

7. Nothing but questions at kicker

8. Big questions around Dak bouncing back from last year, and being able to deliver in big moments

Every year there are a few questions— but damn, there are too many for me to feel anything but uneasy as we roll towards Sept

Seriously what?
Its seriously too early to form an accurate opinion at this time, live action begins in a couple days and we can actually start to form an accurate opinion, that's all, nothing really serious.
Just chomping at the bit for some live action, it's always entertaining to speculate, but we all need some actual substance to chew on, it's been a long offseason.

Have you watched or listened to anything going on the last two months, specifically the last two weeks? Holy crap…

OL Depth. Yep, I give you this one.

We are as deep at RB as we have ever been, and possibly as deep as any team in the NFL. The one guy they end up cutting will be a starter on whatever team signs him.

Nobody has questions about Gallup. Especially himself: He answered this during OTA’s and solidified it the last two weeks.

WR depth.. Thats sincerely a laughable statement: Solid at 1-3. And gonna surprise everyone with the three guys fighting for the 4th

Not a new scheme. Same scheme . Again, where have you been? Yes big change at play caller , but KM was a mess and anyone could’ve done a better job. Mike won a superbowl calling plays. How many guys win more than one?

Kicker. OK you get another one. But hey, this is what the Cowboys do at that position, and it’s never really hurt.

How bad was last year? He looked like an MVP vs TB in the playoffs. Yes, Then he stunk it up vs SF. But he still had a decent year. All those picks??? If you’re a true football guy you have to take off 4 of those, maybe 5 or 6.

Every fan of every team can ask all these same questions. RELAX

IMO this is probably one of the most talented teams we've had overall in a long time. Probably dating prior to the Romo years bar a year.

Defense has the capabilites of fielding a top 5 unit. Offense has the talent to field a top 10 unit. As for any team not just Dallas it comes down to QB and OL health. Kicker is well my biggest worry after OL depth/health. Think the run game will be just fine with split loads.

Eagles and niners the biggest issue. However I feel we gained more on the Eagles this off-season. Their run defense was suspect late last year although do to injury and their weakest point is the back half of that defense. Vikings while having a good offense have one of the worst defenses imaginable and the OL while greatly improved was still slightly better then average. They had no reason to have that record last year with that defense.

Aren’t you the one that insisted Kellen would be a good NFL QB?

If so I might have to discount some of what you said for obvious reasons. If not. My bad.

7. This indeed could be a problem
8. I don't know about big. His pick totals for the other 6 years are what they are and they have noticeably been working to improve on top of that.
1. Early returns from TC don’t look great. Is it bc the D is just that good? Or b/c the depth at OL is poor? We will start to get more answers during the PS games, but questions abound. I saw an article yesterday saying Farniok is focusing on C now b/c of issues playing OG. Ball has been a disappointment, and though Waletzko looked good at times last year, he has been struggling at TC so far. With Tyron’s health always an issue and now Zack’s status up in the air— things are shaky at best.

2. They aren’t tackling the ball carrier yet, his durability at this level will have to be demonstrated . Deuce is tiny. I think he will have his touches, and I believe he will contribute— but the wear and tear on his body can add up quick. Between the injury and suspension, Jones has been a non factor, and Davis and Dowdle are fine for 3rd RBs— but nothing special.

3. Gallup has said it was all mental last year. I am glad he is back at #3 WR as the pressure will be off him, but I will need to see him in game situations to really believe he is all the way back mentally. If he is playing tight and wary or still not trusting his body, it could be a factor. Players respond differently to injury. This one may have affected him mentally in some ways that may require more of a process to get back to where he was. We’ll know soon enough— but I really hope you’re right.

4. This is the biggest issue at WR. Someone definitely needs to step up, and until they do, they are just JAGs in the WR room behind the top 3. One injury to the core guys and we are potentially back to what we were dealing with last year.

5. I hope you are right. The room is unproven. I was actually fine with the Schoonmaker selection, but his injury is the kind of issue that lingers and limits him on the field— and his reps are already being affected. If they all grow and develop, we should be ok.

6. We will know soon enough if MM was a good OC, or if Rodgers carried him. ARod claims to have been changing the plays and it was clear he had little respect for him by the end. So, yah, he is not a neophyte, but his last tenure as OC was spotty at best. Another unknown which is why I listed all of these issues in my OP as significant questions.

7. If we truly are going to be a run first, control TOP type of offense, not having a reliable K becomes even more of an issue. I am surprised they are not doing more to rectify the situation. Points will be a premium. I guess they are banking on the D scoring a TD or two every game lol

8. It’s not just the picks with Dak. It’s been his performances in big games against good defenses. He has not been good enough when it has mattered the most. Last year ended with more inconsistency. He looked great at times, and awful in others. I will be pulling for him to take some steps forward, and I know he is doing everything he can in terms of focus and work to be at his best. We will know soon enough.

Not sure how anyone could have questions about the wide receivers this year. You potentially have two number ones and number two and a few number threes.
Offense of line to me is the only major concern that I have, because if you’ve watched all the padded practices, it leaves you with some very great concern
Zack Martin holding out is a concern for the simple fact that not that he needs a training camp. It’s just that we need continuity and that comes by the more time that you play with each other.
Will Tyrone Smith make it through the year probably not, but if he makes through the majority of the season and is pretty healthy come the end of the season playoffs that’s all we need
Running back is a question I think Pollard is very healthy and he’s ready to go. Don’t see any setbacks in him. He is a number one back and then you have Davis and Rico Vaughn they will be OK as long as we can get that ok straight
Do we have what it takes this year? Absolutely will we achieve it I don’t know it just seems like for these last few years. We’ve always had some major thing that has kept this team from progressing in the playoffs. Stay tuned.

Every year there are a few questions— but damn, there are too many for me to feel anything but uneasy as we roll towards Sept
there is always concerns. there hasn't been a year without questions. I think this year we are better off than previous years. and this same list can be created for any other team. you mentioned a lot of concern around depth. there is not a single team in NFL that has depth across the board. every team takes risks in some positions and lacks depth. this year, outside of RB, I think our depth is better than most other years.

You might want to think defense is in great position, but what about defense as well.
the LB group? is parsons a LB or a DE? he can't be both. if he plays DE, do we trust the youth and inexperience of LBs? what's our depth at the position. concerns about LVE and his level of play.
Mazi is a first round pick, but a rookie and some call him a reach. the DT position is still unproven and they were not that good against the run last year.
there is depth at saftey, but none are truly high end.
what do we have behind parsons? they over used him early last year and he was worn out and with his decline, the defense declined.

but in Quinn we trust.

OL depth is a question. but we are good with starters, which is a lot to say compared to other 31 teams. Martin will be back at some point.
RB depth is a concern. lets see what we got.
WR is in best position its been in years. think two years ago when we had same questions and with Wilson we were 4 deep. I think Gallup is recovered, you are over thinking his injury.

TE wasn't a question mark last year? we trusted Schultz? most of this board wanted Ferguson over Schultz and wanted Schultz gone. yes, TE 2 is gmpy, but position has decent depth.

I think the offensive scheme is going to be better. I was never a fan of Moore from the get go, and 70% of the offense remains the same. and MM is a much better play caller than Moore who had and showed a lot of tendecies.

and yes totally agree on the kicker. 30% of our points came from the kicker. going cheap there, is going to cost us a game here or there. most games go into 4th quarter within one score and can't tell you how often it comes down to a last kick or a 3 point game.

I was uneasy two and three years ago. I knew our defense was going to suck. we are in much better shape. I was nervous last year as we had more questions than this year and WR was in worse position. CB was worse.

I feel better this year, than previous years. hope if leads to something.

-Offense from a personnel standpoint will be much better, barring Martin returning. Zeke is gone, they massively upgraded the WR position with the addition of Cooks. Tyron/Tyler is much better then a rookie Tyler/McGovern. Biggest question is at the TE position.

-We had the same questions about the kicker last yr and Maher had a career season until somehow lost it. There are always quality kickers available.
