I Guess It Is Time to Back Off

After seeing what the Commanders are offering for a veteran WR and seeing 2 teams turn them down, it is obvious to me that the market for Roy Williams is impossible at this time.

I know for a fact that he would like to play here. I stand by that.

I first suggested he was coming here in September of last year. Long before any of the media was speculating it. I have stubbornly clung to this despite repeated denials by the Lions. It has pissed some people off at times. Either they'll forgive me for that or they won't. Not up to me.

You either figure I got lucky or I knew something. Ultimately I guess it doesn't matter because even I just don't see this deal getting done now.

It still could happen. I admit that. Never is a long time and too many things can ruin never. Two days ago I was 90% sure he was going to be our WR opposite TO in 2008. Today I'm 10% sure.

I may be hard headed and obstinate, but even I can look at the recent offers, rebuffs and realize that the price is way too high. It isn't going to happen unless something really amazing breaks the log jam.

So, here's what it boils down to. If the trade happens, I got lucky. If it doesn't there was never anything to it at all and I made up all that stuff and the media all over the nation somehow got wind of it and ran with it.

Eh, whatever.

FWIW, I believed what you told me.....even if I thought you were being too optimistic.

You went out on a limb and shared information. Unfortunately, anytime someone does that and it doesn't come to fruition, it looks bad for that person.

The reality of it is, there are plenty of nuggets of information out there that is probably true....but due to complexities of trading players, most never happen.

I never fault someone for sharing information. The information may in fact be true even if it doesn't happen.

I'll give you mad credit though: despite the fact that you've been burned in the past doing this stuff (re:Everage)..... you continually put yourself out there anytime you come across stuff like this. That is one of the reasons you are one of my favorite posters... You take your shots and keep coming back to share information. A lot of people wouldn't do it.

I'm sure some will lash out.

Sad, really. Because it deters others from sharing what they might know.

The handwriting is pretty much on the wall.

Williams likely won't be a Cowboy. Dang it!

Even Jerry thought he could get it done and he owns the team, so how can we fault you.

We'll see if the lions opinion continues this weekend.

Hardy at #22 and Cason at #28 - done deal :D

i'd flip that to ensure getting cason at this point. if there at 22 he's a bigger value for us than hardy at 22 when hardy should be there at 28.

all a roll of the dice though.

i must admit it's kinda a letdown to be dreaming of this scenario for 3 months only to have snyder come along and whizz on it for us all and get nothing for it.

Smart move - but the smarter move would to pass on Hardy altogether. He's 1st round material IMO.

Time to channel our 'positive energy' toward the hope that the Cowboys draft Antoin Cason.

Yes, it does. We've lost good posters because of people's reactions to these things and in truth I will probably never go out on a limb like that again.

Bollocks. If those posters can't treat the thread for what it is, then let 'em leave by whatever means.

As far as getting a receiver, I'm bummed that the market has apparently priced every single team in the NFL out of getting a FA WR...even though the Pats got Moss for a 4th...i just don't get it. :banghead:

Give me Monk in the third and I'll be content...till next year.

Well if you ever have a info and don't want to go out on a limb, just pass it along to someone else who will. I respect you opinions above many on this board and have no problem looking like an arse if things don't always pan out. Some people have done so for much lesser reasons.

Good info at the time, it's not like you lifted it off another website. Most of the people come here for good information and you're always a part of that.

Quick question. What would keep Detroit from franchising RW next year and then trying to trade him if they don't feel he is signable?
