I always appreciate inside information and this info on Roy in particular.

Once that info is shared its up to all of us to formulate our own opinion about what might happen, or not, from there.

Personally, I don't make many predictions based upon inside info simply because situations are always dynamic. They are always changing. There are so many things to factor in. Even things the "insider" is unaware of or cannot control.

In this situation It makes total sense to me that the Lions would try to hold onto someone like Roy. You can't let your high draft picks, who prove themselves worthy of their draft status, just walk away, much less trade them away for a much riskier proposition (ie #28 overall). That is not how you build a winner.

Might Roy walk next year? I suppose. But it remains to be seen a) how productive he is in 2008 b) how much the Lions would offer him to stay c) how much risk the Cowboys would be willing to take to try to land him as FA. As it stands now, Dallas may have to make a call on TO for 2009 before having any shot at Roy. Losing TO cause he felt betrayed and failing to land Roy would be, ummm, a tough situation.

But who knows, maybe Millen has already decided to move Roy to Dallas. We shall see.

Good info at the time, it's not like you lifted it off another website. Most of the people come here for good information and you're always a part of that.

Quick question. What would keep Detroit from franchising RW next year and then trying to trade him if they don't feel he is signable?

my initial guess is money. they paid last years WR pick top dollar and roy will want the same. most teams just can't pay 2 legit #1's in todays money market.

they'd have to franchise him to keep him and that would be a top 5 average of cash. lots of money in 2 positions.

Nothing at all. They can do that the same as the Chiefs did with Jared Allen. Look at the price the Vikings paid.

I don't think Jerry is willing to pay that price.

Last year Moss was acquired for a 4th round pick. The market was down. This year there is a demand among teams, but the teams holding the prizes are asking too much because Moss was a huge success. Then you add teams liek the Commanders again trying to buy their way to respectability and it screws up the market.

Note, I am not blaming them for trying to get better. But let's be honest, they made a ridiculous offer for a player who if he is dealt before June 1 will handicap the Bengals. They had no choice but to turn it down. The problem is what it did to the market for veteran WRs. I'd be shocked it there is movement now.

There's nothing genius about getting told something was in the works. The genius is if someone comes up with all of that just from reading the tea leaves and putting 2 and 2 together. I didn't do that.

Yup. It was a great idea and made much sense, but it is time to back off of it.

So, in what round, with what pick, do the Cowboys draft their first WR?

And like I posted yesterday, the Chargers look really good right now after acquiring a talented, entering-his-prime WR like Chris Chambers for a low second-round pick.

I've always felt Jerry clings to guys too long and doesn't always look far enough ahead. He did it at QB in 1999-2000, for sure. He got caught without a QB, which led to the Quincy debacle.

With a mid-30s Owens entering his final year and an eventual slow-down, and with Glenn hobbling around, this should have been addressed before now.

Jerry admits he is forever the optimist, but his "better than ice cream" comment yesterday about having Terry Glenn back is over the top.

Monk in the third!

Three years from now, Monk and Stanback ruling as 1-2 receivers. ;) :D

Agreed - and we're kind of in a bind here as I don't view ANY of these WR's as first round talent.......I like the idea of Hardy in the 2nd but I don't think he lasts that long. In the 1st - it's a big stretch. The health of TO this year is HUGE!.....:banghead:

Nice talkin' at ya there junior.. ;)

No doubt about it. I see some stating Ware, and while I love him, he doesn't have the @#$! you attitude........I love ware but it's not the same as Haley. He had a nasty, crazy, mean....Randy White type of attitude which, quite frankly, this team sorely needs.

Good to "see" ya around there Chiefster.

Snyder made those offers with the precise intention of driving the price up for recivers and denying the Cowboys Roy Williams. Why did he make offers for Johnson and Boldin, both of whose team's have said emphatically they are off the market and not Williams? Roy William's situation is not the same as Johnson's or Boldin's. He is in the last year of his deal and it is known he wants to play in Texas.

Why have we not heard anything about the Skins or Eagles making outrageous offers for Williams, if they want a receiver so bad. Not really the same situation. I am not saying these offers don't alter the price for Williams, but the markets are not fully comparable. Snyder made those offers for Johnson and Boldin NOT Williams. Detroit might think they are in a position to ask more for Williams from Dallas now, but if push comes to shove on draft day and there is no corresponding ridiculous offer from the Skins or Eagles specifically for Williams, then Detroit will either have to take what Dallas is offering, risk losing him next year for nothing or sign/franchise him and pay 2 receivers big money. This trade could still go down.

I agree, Sarge. There are a lot of nice guys on this defense.

The defense needs more of a mean streak.

Cliff Harris. Randy White. Thomas Henderson. Charles Haley. James Washington. Roy Williams (pre-neutered). That guy isn't here anymore.

Inside knowledge aside, the market for RW is different.

Chad Johnson and Anquan Bouldin have 3 or 4 years left on their deals at relatively low salaries, compared to what star players are getting now.

On the other hand, RW has one year left. So trading for him means you not only give up a pick, but you're also stuck with giving him a megadeal in the next year.

I doubt RW would command the same kind of market, simply because of his contract situation.

I was wondering about this also. I think he is branching out and trying to screw up other teams and not just his own this year.
