I guess we SHOULD have traded Ellis, Glover and Dat in the offseason.

This was a hot topic in the offseason. I think many of us were resistant to the winds of change. We love the integrity and heart of players like these and didn't want to see them traded even though the writing was on the wall. Ellis's playing time has been greatly reduced. Dat's body can't hold on any longer. And Glover is rumored to be a salary cap casualty next year.

I know all of these fellas have contributed this year, but if the Cowboys are looking like they won't make the Playoffs, wouldn't it have made more sense to just cut our losses immediately and picked up some more depth at weak positions like linebacker and the offensive line?

You can say Parcells needed those guys for depth and because of untrusted young players, and it's true with guys like Canty and Spears, but there isn't exactly anyone behind Ellis, Glover and Dat on the depth charts next year. They will be replaced by no name scrubs.

It's moves like this that baffle me. We could have possibly gotten 2nd round draft picks for these guys, or at least some solid starters, and instead we're going to end up with nothing. This team doesn't have enough depth to lose guys like this for zilch. :bang2:

I guess I like Parcells draft day decision, but it really bugs me how he loses so many players for nothing at all in return. I know it's not as easy as it looks to the layman, but how can the Eagles get a 2nd rounder for A.J. Feeley, yet we can't even get a six pack of beer for our guys?

But this wasn't hindsight. There some Dat trade rumors. Ellis was asking to be let go. A lot of fans were screaming for Parcells to make something happen if he didn't intend on playing these guys fair and square. Parcells isn't giving Ellis or Glover near as much time now that the rookies have learned the pro game a bit better. I'm thinking he never had any inclination to give La'Roi or Greg a fair shot to begin with, so I'm disappointed he didn't explore some trade offers when he had a better hand to deal with.

If we get next to nothing for Glover, a recent probowler, and Ellis, still in his prime, I'll be even angrier than I was at giving up Antonio Bryant for Quincy Morgan.

We should have, and I think it's strange we haven't done something like this the last couple of years, because Parcells traded players for picks in other places, especially the Jets. But, we had no way of knowing Canty would be so good so fast with his injury situation. He might not have even been ready to play at all this year, and that might have meant more 4-3 this year.

Seems the D hasn't played as well since Ellis has been getting less time. Teams throw their attention at Ware, and that helps Ellis, without Ellis, out there, they don't have someone else that's really making them pay for focusing on Ware.

A lot of teams in this league don't have depth. That's just the way it is. And doesn't that reek of hindsight about Dat. I think what Parcells has tried to do this year is use those guys as a bridge to Canty, Spears, and Burnett.
