I know this is what the Cowboys say but look at the 3 teams that run similar defenses:

Carolina = Lotulelei 320
Vikings=Joseph 329
Giants=Harrison 340

I just don’t think this team has any idea what they’re doing on defense.

ding ding ding. It's a BS argument. Get a fattie in here now. But Rod is allergic.

We had the #1 run defense last year. I get that the offense helped, but c'mon..."need" might be a bit strong of a word to use. The way this defensive scheme is designed, it requires linebackers that can fill the gaps and run sideline to sideline. We sorely missed having Sean Lee out the last two games and right now Jaylon can run fast in a straight line, but struggles when required to change direction. That will come with time. The Cowboys are better than average with their front four right now. Of all the things you could complain about, the defensive line is no longer a viable option.

Pass rush no I can’t complain about that this year. But the DL in Run support has been below average this year. Too many holes. 3 100 yard rushers already this year. Oh and you kind of proved my point. Last year we were #1 in run def and we had McClain dominating at 1 technique. But like I said we ignored him and let him go.

we need a big fat nasty 1 technique and this team continues to put in undersized DTs in the middle. It’s hurt us vs the run for years. We have some decent personnel on the DL lawrence , Irving, Collins are a good core but we need a Fat guy. He would plug things up command double teams and stop the run. Why has this team ignored this since Russell Maryland ?

Always going for undersized guys Glover, Ratliff, Paea why can’t we get a fat 320-330 pound guy in there?
Russell Maryland: 6-1, 308

Maleik Collins: 6-2, 311

Josh Brent: 6-2, 325

How many defenses that we've played have 320+ DTs?
Giants

In a scan of Rosters other than the Giants, of the other 4 teams we've played, I see 1 DL over 310 and that's a non-starting player.

Zone blocking killed the super sized DTs that couldn't move quickly down the line.

Snacks Harrison for the Giants is a freak and quicker than many 300 pound players.

Terrell McClain weighs a hair over 300, so, no, I did not prove your point. I personally feel the linebackers have been the weak, specifically Jaylon. That will change when Lee is back.

That’s a serious problem waiting for Lee depending on Lee good luck with that. No team should depend on one player. Sorry front office. Defense needs a ton of help. Starts up front for me. Ignoring 1 tech is a problem for years.

BS the teams that have good defenses with similar schemes all have very good 1 techs. Carolina, Minny , NYG just to name a few. All similar schemes they aren’t having trouble stopping the run and we sure are.

If Collins weighs 311, Snacks weigh 450.

I loved Brent, very tragic story there. And Maryland was aeons ago.

Maliek looks more like 290 to me. There’s some here that are just homers and back whatever this front office does. Same guys argueing are saying it was the right call to pass on 2nd and 1 on our last Drive. Jerry’s grandkids.

One of Jerry's grandkids is a Texas champion QB, and I bet even HE wouldn't have passed on that play!

I will agree that the Cowboys need more talent at linebacker...or at the very least, more time to get Jaylon up to speed. But, yes, Lee means that much to the defense and it is certainly disconcerting that his inability to stay healthy as once again reared it's ugly head. The line, in my opinion, is fine. Not the best, but better than most. David Irving will also need time to get up to speed as will Anthony Hitchens. But, as I have intimated on this website many times, I truly believe this team as a whole is on the cusp of greatness. Whether they realize their potential in this year or the next, though, is anybody's guess. :thumbup:

Brian Price is listed as 6'3" 318 so he almost fits the bill. He has size but he isn't real strong yet. He is young so maybe he can add some more muscle weight and strength during the off season.

Agree totally, need some large beef at the one tech but Marinelli refuses to do it.

I remember a Jerry interview after we switched to the 4-3 where he bragged about this scheme allowing us more player flexibility - essentially more players fit the 4-3 than the 3-4. 5 years later...I don't get that feeling.

This team can't even find adequate 4-3 LBs. Should be the easiest thing to find. You've got to beg Durant out of retirement and for reasons unknown keeping Wilbur on the roster.

We don't necessarily need a 340 lber, we just need a guy who's gonna be disruptive.

Maliek Collins has been a huge disappointment thus far, I really thought he was going to take that next step and be that guy for us. The 3 technique is the engine of this scheme, this is year 5 and all we've spent is one draft pick in the 3rd round on getting that piece.

They only have themselves to blame.

You can complain about the secondary and linebackers all you want, without a really good 3 technique this scheme will fail every year.

Since 1995-96, we never had a decent defense that was worth watching for. All these undersized super quick guys get eaten up in the 4th quarter when they get tired and expose the LB's to bigger offensive lines that cause LB injuries. Every year we have to close our eyes when our defense is on the field. I remember a couple of games in 1996 when we held the NE and GB to 6 and 12 points, those 2 teams played in the Superbowl that year. I miss Jimmy Johnson

So we couldn't afford McClain and lost him to the Skins...and he doesn't even start for them :huh:
