I hate how this team ignores fat players

Lol I always hear that crap but why do other teams that run a 4-3 have bigger DT’s? I don’t think this team even knows what their “scheme” is.

Look at the giants with Harrison and the Vikings with Joseph. It helps out their DE’s so much. Even on the 2000 Bucs they had McFarland and Sapp .It’s the same scheme but this team doesn’t know how to make it work.
Sapp and McFarland were both about 300 pounds. Sapp in particular was under 300 when he was younger and still playing well, I'm pretty sure. Though I don't doubt their weight creeped up as they aged and got less effective.

Also, McFarland averaged, like, 2 sacks per season. Our fanbase would've labeled him a bust the second they realized his career-best 6.5-sack season in his 2nd year was a fluky aberration and he's never sniff that kind of number again much less top it.

This has been my pet peeve from the beginning with this antiquated system.you just can't put a nobody journeyman at 1tech who looks smaller than our 3 tech.

I know this is what the Cowboys say but look at the 3 teams that run similar defenses:

Carolina = Lotulelei 320
Vikings=Joseph 329
Giants=Harrison 340

I just don’t think this team has any idea what they’re doing on defense.
All 4-3 defenses are not created the same. That's where you are confused.

Seriously....You don’t think this team has any idea what they’re doing on defense?They were #1 against the run last year #5 overall in points allowed by accident???

Since 1995-96, we never had a decent defense that was worth watching for. All these undersized super quick guys get eaten up in the 4th quarter when they get tired and expose the LB's to bigger offensive lines that cause LB injuries. Every year we have to close our eyes when our defense is on the field. I remember a couple of games in 1996 when we held the NE and GB to 6 and 12 points, those 2 teams played in the Superbowl that year. I miss Jimmy Johnson

Our defenses in the early 2000s were pretty good.

The offenses were just all time bad.

We had the #1 run defense last year. I get that the offense helped, but c'mon..."need" might be a bit strong of a word to use. The way this defensive scheme is designed, it requires linebackers that can fill the gaps and run sideline to sideline. We sorely missed having Sean Lee out the last two games and right now Jaylon can run fast in a straight line, but struggles when required to change direction. That will come with time. The Cowboys are better than average with their front four right now. Of all the things you could complain about, the defensive line is no longer a viable option.

I copy Jday on 99% of your
Solid insight, except the #1 run defense, as I feel it's not that entirely justified in it's vaunted esteemed placement due to the ease of which it is STILL so easy to pass against this D when it's nut crackin time, why walk when they can fly,heh?o_O

Honest question: you think Ron Rivera and Steve Spagnuola run our kind of defense? Because I really don't. They aren't 34 defenses, but that doesn't mean they match our 43.

I dunno what Zimmer's doing currently, since he's been all over the place in his career (he ran our '90s Campo style defense, then tried the Tampa 2 to disastrous results, and then learned the 3-4 under Parcells -- 3 totally different defenses, and that was just during his years here), so I have no idea what he's really up to right now since I haven't seen a Vikings game this year. Since he has experience in a handful of schemes, I imagine he just picks whichever one he thinks his personnel dictates, though.

Copy, Gurley walked rather well on us a while back, and thankfully canon-ball Lacey wasn't cheese heading FORWARD into our secondary a few days back,,, but other than you being of a contrarian nature, you know as to the 'why' the Dallas D got the run stop ranking of which Jday speaks of as well as eye

Luckily, Shanahan don't use his RB or that could be trouble in SF. He likes to throw...but if Elliott plays..that gives the big edge to Big D.

Kinda sounds like the prior cosmic coaches training trail the EVIL LORD Bill Belichick has vectored thru on his trajectoryo_O

The defense clearly had help in their efforts. But you don't get #1 out of 32 by not helping yourself. Based on what we are seeing, if you're going to add a player, I would address the linebackers and safeties, though we may already have the eventual starters on the roster.

we need a big fat nasty 1 technique and this team continues to put in undersized DTs in the middle. It’s hurt us vs the run for years. We have some decent personnel on the DL lawrence , Irving, Collins are a good core but we need a Fat guy. He would plug things up command double teams and stop the run. Why has this team ignored this since Russell Maryland ?

Always going for undersized guys Glover, Ratliff, Paea why can’t we get a fat 320-330 pound guy in there?

I wanted Vince Wilfork when he was available a couple years back. He would have been a perfect early down player for our players and our scheme. We don't need a super athletic 1 tech for our defense, he just needs to occupy blockers and make a play when it falls in his lap.

I wanted Danny Shelton, too. But we had to have Byron Jones and Randy Gregory...
