Guys Im a big Cowboys fan like you but you need to be impartiel for a minute here. If you think for one minute that our defense is ok I would like you to think about that again. It's defintly not a Superbowl type defense right now. I dont care if were missing Greg Ellis either because even if he does come back hes probably going to do poorly if you look at the history of players coming back from that injury. They need usually 2 years. Newman will help Ill give you that though. I know your all happy from the win and so am I but look at who we played and look at what happed. Today, if Miami had a half decent QB, besides a washed up Trent Green, they probably score at least 30. The one pass that Hamlin intercepted if he puts that pass on the money [ he over threw him by about 5 feet and Chambers was wide open] Chambers has nothing but the whole field to himself if you rewatch the tape. And, What about that great showing we had at the end of the first half giving up like 70 yards in like 3 seconds. Green was throwing to guys that were not open by feet, but by yards, and the one down the middle on third down there was no one within 10 yards of him. In the second half I dont know what Green was doing he was just missing open recievers. Henery had a legit pick I will give him credit but the one that Roy and Hamlin got was not from their coverage but from horrible throws. Pass rush???? What pass rush??? Spencer was non existent today and Ware got close a few times but for the majority of the game he was a non-factor. On top of this, I wasnt too thrilled about our run defense either. We should thank Miami for forgetting about Ronnie Brown. Granted we had our moments with success but also we gave up alot of 7 yard runs. Im looking at the big picture and that is the playoffs.

Fact of the matter is, the truth be told if we played against a Brady, Brees, Peyton, Palmer, Hasselback, etc they would of lit this same defense up again for the 5th or 6th consective regular season game. If we want to win in the playoffs and go to the Superbowl we will need to shut down those QB's i just mentioned. THere are no Trent Green's in the playoffs. Going back to last season against the Saints we have given up 42 to them, 25 to Philly, 39 to Detriot, 35 to the Giants, and 28 to the Falcons. If we played against a slighty better QB I am confident we would had been in another 35-33 game. All Im asking from the D is to show me something. The last time we had a solid defensive outing was when we beat the Colts. THis week is a lose lose situation. If we hold the Bears to 17 points or less it wouldnt be looked at as anything speacil as they only score between 10-20 points a game. But, if they put more than 24 up on us then it was a failure. If we dont sure up our D in 2 weeks, I beileve we play the Rams with Holt, Bruce, Jackson, and Bulger I think thats a 38-35 game.

With all the negativity aside, I would like to say good game to Bradie today. He was all over the place. Roy had a nice game too along with Henry. Good game guys but we cant score 35 every week. I love our O though, theyre doing awesome.

ps, Im not trying to be negativity but this is what I see from the team. The D needs to improve some and were be ok.

I agree that we need to get better on D, but this game was an improvement versus Week 1.

When we get Newman back and as this D gels, we'll slowly get there.

I still think we'll be a better team 2nd of of this season on Defense than the
1st half.

The defensive is improving and that is all I care about right now.

The secondary was flat out awful last week and while Green was getting some mileage out of those out patterns it wasnt nearly the jailbreak that we had last week.

Everyone wants to point to that pass where Green overthrew Chambers and Hamlin picked it off but you cannot blame Hamlin for making the play when it was there. Henry's two picks were becasue of great coverage and Green was running for his life when roy got his pick.

Was it a shut down performacne? Not even close but were stopping the run and our pass defense is getting better With Newman due to come back soon the extra game experience that Reeves is getting could pay dividends in the second half. Add in Ellis working into the rotation and maybe tank Johnson for the second half and i could easily see this group finishing strong.

Now I didn't get a chance to see the game cause my attempt to watch sopcast coverage didn't go well. There was too much interference or something cause it consisently kept breaking up. Assume it's because of the thunderstorms ongoing in the area for several hours.

Don't know any thing about the Dolphins offensive system, but I thought I heard mention they were using or going to a timing-based system. If I remember correctly, that means the QB throws to a designated spot where he expects the WR to be in certain situations. If that's the case, either Green or the WR still not on the same page. Also think that could apply to the Cowboys timing-based system.

totally agree with this post...i have been saying that this team is beyond measuring itself against bad teams...the 5-11 seasons are behind us....now to get to the playoffs you have to beat bad teams, so I am happy with the win. but once the playoffs start, you would like to think the playoffs represent the cream of the crop....and right now it does not look good. with ferguson out, maybe we need to mix in a little more 4-3....i am just thinking out loud, because we do NOT look like a defense that has as many first rounders as we do...and/or guys with as many double digit signing bonuses as we do.

over the course of 16 games, the absence of terry glenn will rear it's ugly head and we are not going to be able to outscore everyone, so we HAVE to tighten down on defense

You guys act like the playoffs are tomorrow . Dallas has 14 games to get healthy , learn the NEW system better , and improve in general . W. Phillips has had a great defense every place he's gone...why would Dallas be any different ?

I agree with you........

I am hoping it takes a while for our Defense to get used to what we need them to do for Phillips.

This offense is banging on all cylinders, even with TG being out,and JJ being the liability a lot of folks here think he is. The defense is a work in progress,or WIP, for all you buzz-word loving bastids out there. Steady improvement, albeit a tad slow for some of you,is still improvement. Have faith!

We're good enough to be 2-0. Our defense hasn't been top notch, but I think we will get there.

Now if you want to play what ifs, what if TO hadn't dropped 3 passes. What if Ratliffe hadn't been held on that one TD. What if Crayton hadn't muffed that punt, he had a wide open field.

What if my aunt had balls......then he'd be my uncle.

None of those things happened, so let's enjoy the win, and look forward to improvements and a great season.

I am not worried.

Not only are they out, but we can't play the kind of defense that Phillips wants to play, especially with Newman out. We can't blitz because Reeves would be toast. As for that drive before halftime, the Cowboys were in that dreaded prevent. The middle of the field was wide open because of a lack of communication (and that will be corrected). The CB was releasing the WR to the Safety, while the Safety was taking the underneath. The Cowboys were lucky the WR didn't go deep on two occasions. We will get better on defense so I'm not worried. The special teams were a major concern for me, but that has improved.

1 Touchdown was a fluke but what ever.

Our defense played good yesterday. When Newman gets back we will be able to roll coverages and get even more aggressive.

Things will smooth out and the defense will get better.

Demarcus Ware hasn't even woke up yet... Just wait till that happens.

The defense will get better as the season goes on.

Blatant hold right in front of the refs. Unbelievable that that did not get called!

Chambers appeared wide open because Hamlin was playing the ball. If the ball was on the money, he would have levelled Chambers and probably caused the incompletion.

Chambers has nothing but the whole field to himself if you rewatch the tape.
The CB's were playing off in the beginning of the game, but tightened it up later. The first interception by Henry was due to tight coverage.

No offense, but the panic over the defense is a little premature. The players are still learning the defense and we still have some players banged up. The defense still improved drastically from the Giants game.

No doubt the defense still has work to do. I look forward to getting Newman back but in the mean time I think this is a good experiance for Reeves. He had some good and bad once again but I think once Newman returns and Reeves comes in on 3 and 4 WR sets he will be a bit more experianced. As for the front I still think they will start bring more blitzes once the staff feels more confident in the play of the secondary. Run defense in my view is still my biggest concern. I agree with Moose that Miami made a mistake by not sticking with the run starting the 2nd half of the game.

I dont want to peak in Sept, Lets get this team playing its best by Mid Dec..

Doesnt appear we will run the table for sure. If there is a weak area, I'm kinda glad it is the D......Wade has been able to get D's fixed whereever he has gone........Jerry picked the right man for the job.......We got the Maytag man working on fixin' the D............I think they are lacking confidence after the 5 game slide in late 06'.........

I' gotta believe Wade is holding a few tricks in the bag, working on some schemes, a few wrinkles to put the guys in better position.....

Try to remember, even back to the Jimmy Johnson days, when our defense had four interceptions let alone on the road against a team that plays well at home in September. I can't, and we've played some pretty bad teams at home with their second and third string quarterbacks playing. That doesn't happen by accident.

The Chicago offense is not much better than the Miami offense. It's the New England offense I'm worried about.

I was just thinking that this morning about the Bears offense. Grossman does not impress me at all, and he's known for making mistakes especially under pressure.......Ahhh! if we can put pressure on him the outcome is in our favor........
