I feel the cowboys are goin to trade barber (eventually), reason being we have three good rb's on our hands and some teams don't have any decent rb's ( ravens, lions, and couple others). And with f.jones, and choice being as young and as good as they are jerry is not going to be willing to trade either away, i wish we can keep all three but 1's got to go eventually and i'm going to dread that day.

But what if we trade Barber for a player who can contribute at a high level for a position we need help with(DE, S, depth in OLine)?

Exactly. You have to look at whats best for the team, and if a team starts calling for Barber with an offer you can't refuse you have to take it.

I would hate to get rid of any of our backs but I also understand to get someone of quality you must be willing to trade a quality player in return.

it wont happen for salary cap reasons but I would take a number 1 for him in heart beat. His running style leads to a short career (think Earl Campbell) and running back is a plug and play position in the NFL. (think Denver)

We're not trading Barber anytime soon because of the massive contract, and signing bonus, they just gave him a year ago. Barber isn't going anywhere, anytime soon.

stop this nonsense!
Not going to happen. Ever heard of a signing bonus, thats guaranteed money that is accellerated over the term of the contract if traded.

With his contract?

No chance. No team would give us a #1 for him, especially coming off the year he just had.

Depends on the RB you are talking about. Denver does run a system that benifets RB but then you have RB in this league who are big differance makers to their franchise such as when Smith was here or Dorsett was in Dallas. Peterson in Minn has helped to make them a contending team

Times are vastly different now. You probably won't see a runningback draw a #1 pick from another team in a trade again outside of a AP.

Teams have figured out that running by committee works well, having at least 2 good backs is just fine, and that you can find a good back almost every year at some point for much cheaper than trading for a #1 away for another teams tailback.

Ravens got to the AFC Championship last year with LeRon McClain. He is an absolute load to take down. Their running game is what carried them throughout the year, was it not?

The Lions just drafted Kevin Smith who came on pretty strong at the end of the year, averaged 97 yards last 3 games, and had rushing TDs. He was only 24 yards shy of 1000, had 8 TDs also. He didn't even start like 4 games b/c of Rudi Johnson. He will turn out to be a pretty good back imo.

MB3 ain't going anywhere with his contract.

It depends on the RB you are talking about, you just mentioned AP being one. Hell when Emmitt was with us there were only 2 other backs in the league that you could put in the same company with him and that was Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas. Great RB are still difference makers. Now I'm not putting Barber in that elite status but there will always be RB who are head and shoulders above the rest who will be worth it to teams. Just like any other position great ones will always be sought after

Remember team, we're talking about JJ here when speculating about possible moves. Anything is possible.

The offseason is always and adventure with JJ! LOL.

I've been getting the feeling that him and Jones hit a crossroads at the end of last season and something is going to have to give.

Barber may have made his own bed by not rushing to get back from that injury. Especially in a time of need like this team was in trying to push itself into the playoffs late.

One has to remember, Emmitt and his dislocated shoulder. It could have been a broken leg and nothing would have kept Emmitt off that field so he could try n help us win that big game. Barber, imo, showed questionable "heart" at the end of last season. He should of been out there unless it was blatantly obvious that he couldn't be- which it wasn't. The plays he did scatter himself in, he looked just as good Choice. Maybe not 100%, but then again he wouldn't have to be to be a better option than Choice.

Bottom line I think, he got pig-headed after Jones questioned him. Which even if he doesn't go somewhere else, totally deducts the leadership he had on the field by not getting out there when he could have. I mean just look at Romo and his cast-away pinkie, on his throwing hand nonetheless. Nothing stopped him.

And in a way, if what we saw out of Barber at the end of last season is true, it just plays greatly into the problem of everything that's wrong with this team. We're proving ourselves a weak-minded team, not willing to sacrifice it all to get where we got to go. More worried about public perception and personal well-being over that #6 for this franchise. Lacking the very things that drove and propelled Troy, Emmitt and Michael, from their very core. For them, glory, the burden on their back. Nothing would stop them from shaking it.

I also feel that Choice and Felix is gonna be a sweet duo.

Let's hope both of these youngsters are tough enough to last a grueling 16 game season. They do have talent.

And secondly;

I think people are truly fooling themselves if they think either Jones or Choice is a respectable option to Barber. They're not. Not even close IMO.

Do you know what actually happen the end of last season? Defenses saw Barber not out there, dropped back into greater pass protection schemes and dared our offense to beat them with the Run. And as clearly shown, failed, and failed miserably. As the games went on, our receivers got locked down more and still yet nothing from our RBs to counter.

We don't have anything but good "change-up" backs behind Barber. Quit fooling yourselves. They are nothing greater. If we lose Barber, we lose our ability for a balanced offense, and possibly never see from Romo again what we used to see from him in the passing game.

It's all about being respected. And our RB's below Barber are not respected, not in the least.

A 10+ million buck cap hit ain't possible, a trade will never happen.

Thats a good point, but with some hard work they are gonna be golden. Even though we might would lose a train for it to happen.

We are in a great position in terms of running back. I feel that we picked up Jones and Choice to compliment Barber, not replace him, so that we would be well rounded and could attack from all angles. I would think Jones or Choice (probably Choice) would be the first to go if anyone does...
