The one thing he has done in his career to get recognition is that he heavily practiced one-handed catches (seriously, he promoted the fact he spent a lot of time practicing one-handed catches), which helped him make highlight reels for spectacular catches. He did this though wearing gloves that do most of the work.

He's a 5'11 receiver whose quickness has been impacted heafvily by multiple injuries in recent years. I am not saying he is a bad receiver, but he has never been anything special.

He had one or two good seasons when he entered the NFL years ago and he has been living off them ever since. His greated highlight reel catch was against the Cowboys in 2015 (7 years ago) in a game his team actually lost.

NFL history is littered with 1-2 year wonders that were anointed future Hall of Famers only to see their careers nose-dive in subsequent years due to injuries or the rest of the league figuring out how to stop them.

If OBJ was healthy, I could see the Cowboys adding him as a 3rd receiver, but at this point, I trust James Washington's recovery more than I do OBJ's.

He's about where Deion Sanders was when Washington signed him. Different position, I know, but same approximate career place. Like Deion, he's been hampered by injuries and is in the twilight of his career. Whoever signs him isn't getting the spectacular player he once was.

Had a big start to his pro career and has been more hype than anything since.

Plus you have to factor this in even if you don't want to hear it. Jerry really wants to do this. Not the scouts, not the coaches. Jerry is the one that wants this. You can make a pretty sound bet betting against his instincts.
Jerry is bored Bc we aren’t allowed to enjoy the regular season anymore. It’s always super bowl or bust.

He made that catch that one time against us though.

I've never seen a player live off 1 single play more than OBJ and that catch.

Not even Cris Carter ? He made circus one catch as frequently routine and effortless easy as any i've seen.

That catch was seen around the world and blown totally out of proportion and he didn't even start that one-handed catch deal, Jarvis Landry did.

Actually I have never been a fan of his because I did not think he was a great receiver, just a good receiver.

I would have taken DeSean Jackson over OBJ because DJ was a much better overall receiver.

I realize you assume that people who have different opinions than you are limited in their ability to objectively review a player, but I assure you that is not the case with me because I have no emotional attachment to any of the players.

All I care about is the results, not the puzzle pieces because the puzzle pieces do not care about the fans whether that is players, coaches, front office personnel or the team owners.

He’s one of and in some cases, the most, productive receiver in his first three seasons of his career in terms of totals and per game averages.

I don’t know what OBJ is as a player anymore. Injuries have probably taken its toll on him. But to claim he wasn’t anything special early in his career is just glib.

*So now we’re claiming DeSean Jackson is a more “complete” receiver now, lool?

...I saw a segment on that last year. That all he did was practice one hand grabs.. lol.. I find that kinda egoist, if you know what I mean. Why not just better in general.

..actually John Jefferson of Chargers back in 70's. Made a Beauty One Handed Grab in the end zone from Fouts. It made cover page of San DIego newspaper next day.

...still remember it, to this day. But I know CC, you were probably a teenager then. ..;)

I’m not sure anyone sees him as an elite WR at this point.

Those who want him here solely want him in the role he played for LA last season. If you don’t think he can be who he’s shown he can be then idk what to tell you. The only issue at this point is injury.

But if you’re telling me you don’t see a third WR who can make a big play in a big moment then you must have not have been watching the Rams playoff run.

Good veteran WR if healthy and wants to contribute for a team not "Look at me" which both if's seem to be comming true..he is not healthy AND he is trying to make everything about him. Not a good situation for this team in my opinion.

Not sure why the thread title bothered you. It was a true statement. I have never seen what other people see in OBJ.

Unfortunately, 2022 OBJ is a long way from the 2014-2015 OBJ, and that was even before the Super Bowl injury.

Oh 100 pct. Damaged goods, but I wanted to argue.

He was outstanding his first three seasons but once the injuries started up with him he fell way off. In eight seasons he’s only played one full season. He’s an injury waiting to happen. This is why he doesn’t want to play during the regular season and is wanting to sign just for the playoffs. He probably couldn’t get through a practice without suffering a soft tissue injury. This is why he doesn’t want to work out for anyone. No one would be interested in him if it wasn’t for his performance in the Super Bowl. He’s resting on that performance.

Early OBJ was dangerous.

He was #2 all time in receiving yards over the course of his 1st 3 seasons. Randy Moss was ahead of him by only 41 yards, albeit Moss played 5 more games in that span. (Jefferson now has blown the doors off both guys, btw).

He was a really great route runner with enough quickness to break free. And even though he was 5'11", he could get up there and catch jump balls like he was 6'2".

We all remember the Catch, but his performance against the 2014 iteration of the Legion of Boom was more indicative of how good he was. Not many people beat Richard Sherman down the sideline back in those days, but OBJ was able to... a couple of times actually.

He finished the game with 7 receptions, 108 yards, and probably would have had 50 more if not for Eli's noodle arm.

I think more than anything is that this fanbase is just hungry for any kind of post-season success. If that meant living off of hope that OBJ would walk in here and take us to the promised land, so be it, fans were willing to do it. I'm not innocent of it, but I think deep down we all know he wasn't going to come in here and make any kind of historic change. We've got what we've got at this point, and hopefully, that'll be enough.

There's some plausible deniability for some that his numbers only suffered because of the environment he was placed in (CLE).

Think Randy Moss in Oakland.

But I'm not so sure that was the case, and at this point, after the injuries no one should assume he can still play like he used to.

Fat head Jay Glazer looks like a real idiot reporting a month ago that OBJ was cleared to practice. Lol Glazer can’t get anything right it’s a wonder he still has a job with Fox.
