Yeah, several years ago and several injuries ago, he was a featured receiver with great stats.

Unfortunately we are not talking about 2014-2016 OBJ, but rather 2022 OBJ who cannot even play right now.

I think he was also coming on down the stretch for the Rams, especially in the playoffs when it mattered most.

Prior to injuring his knee, he was on his way to being Super Bowl MVP.

I can understand the uncertainty about his return from injury, but I think the player’s overall resume shows what he’s capable of.

The one thing he has done in his career to get recognition is that he heavily practiced one-handed catches (seriously, he promoted the fact he spent a lot of time practicing one-handed catches), which helped him make highlight reels for spectacular catches. He did this though wearing gloves that do most of the work.

He's a 5'11 receiver whose quickness has been impacted heafvily by multiple injuries in recent years. I am not saying he is a bad receiver, but he has never been anything special.

He had one or two good seasons when he entered the NFL years ago and he has been living off them ever since. His greatest highlight reel catch was against the Cowboys in 2015 (7 years ago) in a game his team actually lost.

NFL history is littered with 1-2 year wonders that were anointed future Hall of Famers only to see their careers nose-dive in subsequent years due to injuries or the rest of the league figuring out how to stop them.

If OBJ was healthy, I could see the Cowboys adding him as a 3rd receiver, but at this point, I trust James Washington's recovery more than I do OBJ's.
Thank you. They got this. Don't need to sew discontent.

I am actually glad this dust up created by Jerry is behind us, even if he was healthy enough to play this year, I firmly believe signing him would have done more harm than good.

but they weren't bringing him in as a savior

the rams didn't, Kupp should be been league MVP, we have stars lime the rams did etc OBJ is insurance, an added threat at this point in his career and his price tag wasn't such that it could affect the team.. no one was star struck with OBJ as some sort of Key player, they saw this as the cherry on top of the Sundae type deal..jst in case we need and extra threat or had key injury,

Take away his one-hander that made the highlight reels, he’s a good not great receiver. Right there with you. Here are his bottom line career stats:
  • For his career, he averages 5 receptions for 76 yards per game. Good, not great.
  • His yards per target has gone from 10.0 in his rookie season to 6.4 the last 3 seasons.
  • His last 4 seasons, he averages 4 TDs a year.
  • His last 4 seasons, averages 58 yards per game.
Again, these are the numbers of a good but not great receiver. A good receiver who is clearly in decline. I just don’t get the over-hype of getting this guy.

He has now reached the status of sedimentary rock, to me.
