I hope we don't draft this bust!

BigDave95 has watched a lot of Arkansas and McFadden, and he says that this is a misunderstanding. The fact is, it is a highlight reel, and McFadden in the open field, because of his speed, is gone. If you look at his stats for this year, 9 out of 12 of his games, his longest run was a 30 yarder. 4 of his other games, he had a 51, 56, 80, 79 yarder.

McFadden seems to be deceptive in that he seems to be a home-run hitter, but in reality, he also is a grinder. He enjoys contact and gets tough yardage, and it is pretty amazing considering teams stacked 9 in the box to stop him. The guy had a horrible QB and passing attack to complement him. McFadden at 5.6 YPC was hard earned yardage.

Not to dispute your observations, but isn't that telling in itself?

When I watched the Marion Barber tape, I see him breaking tackles and many of his long runs the result of breaking tackles.

When I watch D-Mac's highlight tape, I see long runs. Rarely do I see long runs after he's broken several tackles.

Again, I'm not saying I'm right because I haven't seen all of McFadden's games, though I have seen some being a big SEC fan.

But maybe someone can put together a highlight tape of his short runs so I can get a better feel for how he would do running in small windows or through small holes, not through those Rock of Gibraltar holes he's always seen running through on highlight tapes.

Just as a side note:

This guy was recruited out of college to play defensive back. Here is a clip of him in high-school:

Look at the hit he laid out at 13 seconds.

While it is high-school, the fact is, the guy isn't soft. Those type of plays are pure instinct.

Thanks, Khiladi.

Looks like he would have been a top 5 pick as a DB also. :)

Meh, myself, I'd think a guy like Dorsey or Long would be a better pick up than McFadden FOR THIS TEAM even if we did move up to the top of the draft. I'd think those guys would have a bigger impact on the success of this team than a RB who would get about 10 carries a game.

Not that I would adovocate moving up that much at all... the cost in terms of draft picks AS WELL AS cap money to pay a top draft pick would be prohibitive to say the least. Forget picking up a FA corner back or a WR like Fitzgerald or Williams like everyone has suggested ad nauseam. You pick that high, you're out of luck as far as paying those guys. Or you let Marion Barber walk, because you have to pay him too.

Myself, while I think D-Mac has a good chance of being a productive NFL player (though I don't think he can touch AP, personally), the other factors at play would prohibit any such move for the cowboys to get him.

Edit: Actually, as much as I love Dorsey, I don't know how he'd do in 3-4. The overall point stands, though.

[SARCASM] Everytime I convince myself that this kid is an overrated bust waiting to happen, and that we'd be better served waiting until rd2 to pickup a Ray Rice or Chris Johnson, some fool goes and posts DMac's vids. Now I'm conflicted again. Crap! Why are you doing this to me? What have I ever done to you that would make you want to keep me in a state of confusion? I'll spend the rest of the day scratching my head thanks to you.[/SARCASM]

BTW, Drew Boylhart(thehuddlereport.com) says that DMac is a bigger/better version of Gayle Sayers, and that if he refines his game, and cut down on fumbling, he has the potential to be the best RB to EVER play in the NFL.

I swear if I have to watch another highlight video in my life with that stupid Fort Minor song I'm going to kill myslef.

I was breaking down some of his 50+ yard runs the other day and noticed he has cauliflower ear. I defy you to find one great NFL RB who ever had cauliflower ear. No thank you.

This time last year............................I personnally witnessed a bajillion Reggie Bush video's and after watching the one's with Sproles...............had to have him. Let's not forget the Brady Quinn vids; that stuff made me quiver.

What? He could have Klingon ears for all I care.

Man! Who makes these videos anyway? That music blows...(well, if you want to call it music)...

1. Slow
2. Weak
3. talentless

I only watched the first video, and he is very fast.

But I think he literally only broke one tackle in all of those runs.

How does that translate to the NFL?
He better be able to put the shoulder down and break tackles, get the tough yards, get 2-3 when there is no hole or he won't be worth it.

He looks like a bigger Steve Slaton. Slaton can do what he does, and Slaton won't carry the load in the NFL either.

Give me a Ray Rice or Mike Hart, .. guys that have strong lower body, run low to the ground, and just keep the legs moving, gaining yards on every carry.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having DMac on the Cowboys, I just don't want to give up a lot to get him, or expect him to do the same things at the next level.

MB3 and DMac behind a HH coached Oline will be UNSTOPPABLE.....
