I did not need to see statistics to tell me Mike Jenkins was Dallas number one CB. It was all those plays he made.

The year he entered the Draft I was a no doubt about it Antoine Cason fan because he was from here at the UA. Early on in the Draft process Jenkins was the no doubt about it #1 CB on most Draft sites. Then he started dropping because of the "he played at a small school" stigma.

One poster here, I think it might have been theogt, but I am not 100% sure, posted a stat that said Jenkins QB rating when he was thrown at that year was around 14.5. I know it was under 15.

I got a tip that the Cowboys wanted him really bad. Though I had been pimping Cason like the UA Homer that I am, the day before the Draft I told people that if Jenkins was there at 22 we were going to take him. Draft time and he was there at 22. We took Felix Jones. I gotta tell you, I was shocked.

Then when the Commissioner announced we had traded up I knew it was to make sure we got Jenkins. If you go back and listen to dcfanatic's podcasts, clear back in his rookie year I have been saying he has the best footwork I have seen in forever. You cannot wrong foot this kid. I was as angry as anyone at the non tackle against the Giants.

This year, he was the total package and he will only get better. Great pick by Dallas. Better than Cason. I'm not afraid to admit it.

LOL at anyone who says Revis is overrated.

Also we are lucky to have a corner of Jenkins' caliber. It frees Wade up to do some things defensively we might not ordinarily be able to do.

to think people wanted to get rid of jenkins because of one play in the giants game last year....

Yep, the only reason he was even co-starter was because our coaches were gutless and/or Jerry had to play the first rounder.

Oh, and Newman tweaked a groin in camp? He'll NEVER stay healthy, and he sucks anyway.

Not based on real stats, and kind of flaky for the way it is presented. I think you'd have a lot of people pick Asomugha (or however you spell his name) from the Raiders as one of the 2 or 3 best, and he's way down the list the way this is presented.

There is no legitimate way to account for a CB being thrown at. It's all just someone's guess. Just like all of us arguing whose fault a blown coverage was.

Doesn't change the fact that Jenkins played fantastic. All things considered, I'd say this was the best season by a Dallas CB since Deion was still elite.

Stats or not, Revis was truly amazing. I haven't seen a CB that good since Deion. Charles Woodson had a good year, but there's no way Revis shouldn't have been DPOY.

Deion didn't always have big #s of INTs, so a lot of people can't really appreciate - especially those not old enough to have seen it - that there would be weeks and weeks go by where opposing QBs would throw at Deion maybe once, if at all. When analysts talk about taking a side of the field away, Deion would truly do that. Sometimes teams would sneak one in on him simply because I think Deion would get complacent and was surprised that a QB had the audacity to actually throw at him.

I couldn't stand him, but man what a talent.

You don't think opponent passer rating is an accurate form of measuring a corner's effectiveness?

How exactly could you determine that? How do you assign a particular pass to a particular DB? Sometimes it appears obvious, and then sometimes it isn't. A lot of times a DB appears beaten, when in reality he's just chasing because someone else blew their assignment. All whoever compiled this can do is just guess.

Doesn't change that Jenkins was terrific.

QB rating only indirectly accounts for passes defended, of which he had 23. His 2009 season was one for the record books.

How do you like Tracy Porter now?

Just imagine how good our defense can become if we get a playmaker at safety.

It would allow us in turn to tighten up our coverage underneath, which will in turn hopefully lead to more sacks and interceptions as the QB tries to force the ball downfield.

I really, really think a playmaking safety makes this defense elite.

And no, we're not elite yet, I dont care how many points we gave up last year. We're not elite yet.

No kiddin NextGen...A playmaking safety does wonders for this D.

Well if Deion being thrown at only once per game was part of what made him great then wouldn't that be the case for Asomugha as well? Asomugha is great because he was thrown at half as many times as the second least frequently targeted CB (and that guy didn't even play 6 games).

Our defense is fine. I'd spend all of our resources on this offensive line.
