You still believe in the Marinelli magic huh?

I watch it on Sundays. All of us talk about how under talented our defensive personal are. By the end
of the games [3 so far] our stats look very reasonable. Reasonable enough that we are winning games and
lost one by 1 point. Give Marinelli some talent and we are in the tournament for some time.

This defense hustles and that makes up for some of the lack of talent. The bend don't break is nerve racking
at times but it is keeping points of the opponents board. So yea I believe in the magic of Marinelli.

They need to invest some resources into the defense, the question is will they. In 2008, they picked Felix Jones in the first round, this year they came full circle and picked Elliot in the first. In between, not a single first round pick was used on the defensive front seven.

I like Byron and JJ Wilcox has seen limited time, but has finally started to play the position fairly well. He might be a more natural SS if they can trust his tackling in the box. I loved T. Crawford in 2014, but teams started to gameplan for him in 2015 and then he was playing with 1 arm. He's not playing terrible, but not worth the money he's getting paid. Hopefully he'll return to his 2014 form. I actually like Hitchens, just not at the MIKE.

I'm a believer that if you have these positions down pat on your team, you're going to be tough to beat:

SS
FS
MIKE
Center
QB

I think if you want a really good defense in today's NFL, you need to be strong up the middle. Today's NFL asks a lot from both safety positions and the MIKE position. And I really think this is a league where, unless you have Von Miller, the best way to disrupt the QB is thru the interior linemen. I think we may have something with Byron Jones and I could see making Crawford a pass rushing 1-tech and being very effective. If we can fix the other positions up the middle of the defense, then we'll see a much better defense.

lol. You don't know my woman!! Anybody wants to knock her around better bring their lunchpails.lol.Woman aren't has fragile as you think!! Anyway, that wasn't the meaning of my post. No one knows what goes on in the players lives and its none of my business. If a player comes out Sunday and plays hard thats good enough for me. The media blows all these stories way out of proportion because controversy sells.

Well, actually, in many cases we DO know. And we SHOULDN'T turn a blind eye to these situations when we find out about them.

The culture was different in the 70s when reporters knew of situations but didn't report them. And it allowed such abuses to continue.

Now, we live in a society that is less tolerant of such abuses and will call people out for them. And by doing so, we put players on notice that they have to be civil human beings in even the personal parts of their lives. Because if they're not and they operate in a dysfunctional manner in their personal lives, then that dysfunction will become public, inviting the public to react and forcing the player to change his ways.

Do you think Ray Rice would be fighting against domestic abuse if his situation weren't exposed? I don't.

And that's MY point. :)

One step at a time? Is this a new regime? How many years until we take that initial step?

I think they have.

The NFL is closer to a "zero sum game" than it is a place where you're going to weave gold out of straw.

You have 31 competitors and a finite about of talent available with a finite amount of resources to acquire said talent.

You seem to think acquiring talent is as easy as flipping a switch.

That's true.

Very true.

But did you want the offensive line rebuilt?

I'm not being a wise guy... In sales we talk about the terms fast, easy, cheap– And we are often left to choose two out of the three. You can't have all 3.

Same thing in the NFL, 7 picks per draft, a roster of 53 players plus the practice squad and an average career of less than 4 years.

You don't have enough fingers to plug all the holes in the dam. You're going to have to let some "leak".

Logic tells you that they should go defense in the draft....but the logic in the front office is not your normal logic. Imagine if instead of using a 1st and a 2nd on Claiborne they would have used those picks to shore up the defense. Or instead of using a 2nd and a third on Lawrence, they use the picks on defensive players. Instead of taking an injured Carter or a drug addicted Gregory in the second they would have used those picks on defense. Instead of Smith, take a player who can contribute to the betterment of the defense now. There has to be a commitment to make the defense better instead of taking chances. I think it's dumb to think that Marinelli can take players who should be on a practice squad, at best, and make them a great defense. Marinelli's best years were when he had superstar talent on his team.

The OL did need to be rebuilt and to their credit the players taken haven't been disappointments like on some other teams. I think Martin is a blue chip player but once we had a cornerstone left tackle and center he was probably a luxury pick. It used to be that offensive linemen we picked on the second and third day didn't work out but Green seems to be changing that trend.

I don't know...Haley...Randy White...HARVEY MARTIN and many previous great Cowboys were extreme characters. Not defending Hardy...just saying and yes l liked Hardy!! Saddens me whats happened to him.

All of those you mentioned managed to blend in compatibly with the staff but not so with Hardy. He got on the wrong side of JG & that was it. The cocaine incident was maybe a major blow that could have truly made him untouchable to everyone but of course, it remains to be seen.

They should leave the investigations to law enforcement. Just set NFL punishments for actual legal convictions. There is no way that sports leagues can properly investigate all player's actions.

Honestly I'm surprised all 3 of the 1st round OL did pan out.

You review all the Olineman drafted in the first round over the past decade and while it's not as ugly as 1st round defensive linemen, to go 3 out 3 on 1st round offensive linemen is saying something.

Instead of what ifs and should haves in past drafts and FA. And we can't do a thing about it but whine and complain which does no good.
I will focus on who we have and look each week on how they improve. I still do not trust this defense and stopping big plays at the right time, or stop game winning drives all the time. But even the best defenses can't do that every time.
However our D has come up with some stops and good plays this year without a pass rush. So I can see some improvement even more once DLaw returns.

I also will not focus on what they need to do in the draft and FA next year. We all know what they need / should do. But let's play out this year first and see what / who develops. It is a long season, so I am going to enjoy the future team unfold this year in Dak & Zeke, and on D the young players already mentioned.
Heck Chaz Green has even given me some hope for a replacement for Doug Free.
