I know defense wins championships, but

If Donald and Jerrigan are gone, then I believe you take the BPA and that seems to be Martin.

He can be slipped in at guard and be your right tackle in the future.

I am not interested in trading down. That seems to be the same thinking every year, and usually if followed by a comment that Dallas can get something ridiculous in a trade down.

Dallas got their pockets picked last year by the 9ers. Love Freddie but not enough came back this way for that trade.

I loved the trade down. Who would you say we missed out on?

I'd prefer getting a guy like Bitonio or Brandon Thomas in the 2nd or 3rd. These are guys who can play OG or OT and should be pretty good. I'd rather go defense in the 1st. Ideal situation would be to trade back, get an extra 3rd round pick, get a guy like Dee Ford in the 1st, and spend that extra 3rd rounder on a guy like Brandon Thomas who can be the starting RT next year.

The Cowboys will also have some more $$ after June 1st to resign Waters if we want.

He left with a torn muscle and I don't think he had surgery on it so I'm thinking he's probably not in as good a shape this year but it was nice while he was in there.

The Cowboys have two anchors in Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick, and Doug Free was pretty solid last year. The guards aren't special, but passable. The o-line was a strength in 2013 and should continue to be so. It's not necessary the Cowboys draft an o-lineman early, though I wouldn't be totally opposed to it.

The Cowboys could be the first team in history to trade up one year and give too much and make the same kinda deal the next year for a lower spot and not get enough. Remarkable.

Always. We should always be trying to improve either side of the trenches. It starts and ends there.

Exactly. Look at Seattle. They were solid in the trenches. So was San Fran.

We have Frederick and Tyron for many more years. Adding another piece helps build that unit for the new era.

I think the OL was probably the most improved OL in football from 2012 to 2013. It improved leaps and bounds.

OL, DL and safety should be the main concern of this drive. If you can find a good value WR late, that's fine. But the skill positions should not be a huge priority.

I think they will probably pick DT, DE, LB, WR, G/C, and maybe QB. Last year three of the first four picks were offense. The year before we went heavy defense. I think we alternate again this year with more defensive picks early.

We effectively got the Beard and Terrance with our first round pick last year, so if Jerry could capture a bit more of that magic in this draft, I'll take it in a heartbeat.

I think the Cowboys got fleeced with the 9ers last year on the trade for Freddie.

I like Freddie and have no complaints. Just what Jerry got for that trade made me think he left money on the table.

But then I am a fan and don't know jack.

Huh?

Sorry, disagree. Dallas should have gotten more than a 3rd.

Those 2 are perfect for what we need and I think 1 will be available in the 3rd....or at least hope. Anyway, this draft is pretty deep for guards and we can get a pretty nice piece in rounds 3-5.

Thomas
Bitonio
Trai Turner
Dakota Dozier
Chris Watt
Spencer Long
Billy Turner
Juwan James

Grab 1 of them in rounds 3-5 and we are in good shape for the o line. For once I will agree with Jerry that we don't need to invest a premium pick on o line

That is completely inaccurite statement. On the Cowboys trade chart they got almost an even trade. The difference was minimal. If you look at a trade chart from 20 or 25 years ago that might be different. But not the upgraded ones. This was highly debated last April and this was the resulting story.

I really like the kid TE Niklas from ND personally - if we trade down - very athletic and a physical beast. Could really be a blocking issue for opposing teams. Still very young and still learning. He is going to be a match-up nightmare at the next level. Gronk 2.0 IMO.

Ducking now due to the TE mention..........................

I am still hoping we do not trade anywhere and Donald is there. We have to jump all over him.

I still hope they bring in some kids in the later rounds at G and RT.

That's because Notre Dame is a TE factory. Niklas is very very good, and if we do not get him, or any TE this draft, ND will having another good coming out next season, yes, I am a Irish fan, a HuskerIrishlonghorn

Exactly...just like you are.

I thot it was a good move right when they made the trade. I was never on the ledge over it. We get a starting Center for the next decade, and a starting caliber WR. You have to look at the final result, not base an evaluation off of comments from ignorant mediots and some perception of a value chart in somebody's basement.

All the attention has rightfully been on the big defensive line pieces but shouldn't we be looking at some OL pieces as well?

Really, will someone help me understand how defense wins championships? A team wins championships, defense and offense working together, but the offense is the unit that puts the points on the board, and the only way to win a championship is to outscore the other team. Now at times the defense puts points on the board, but how many times do they put enough on the scoreboard to win a championship game? Not very often, defense plays a big part in stopping the other team, limiting them to field goals instead of touchdowns, returning a punt, or an INT, or fumble for a score, but 95 to 97% of the time the get the ball back for the offense which in turn if they can goes and puts the points on the board, to win, so offense wins championships and defense preserves them.
