These are the players selected BEFORE the Cowboys took DeMarcus Ware at #11. While a couple of them have not been bad at all, there are none I would rather have over him. It honestly is not even close.

1. Alex D. Smith, 49ers, QB, Utah
2. Ronnie Brown, Dolphins, RB, Auburn
3. Braylon Edwards, Browns, WR, Michigan
4. Cedric Benson, Bears, RB, Texas
5. Carnell Williams, Buccaneers, RB, Auburn
6. Adam Jones, Titans, DB, West Virginia
7. Troy Williamson, Vikings, WR, South Carolina
8. Antrel Rolle, Cardinals, DB, Miami (FL)
9. Carlos Rogers, Commanders, DB, Auburn
10. Mike Williams, Lions, WR, USC

Nice to know that if Jones turns his personal life around then Dallas will have snagged arguably two of the top five talents in that draft.

Carlos Rogers at 9 when they could have had Merriman or Ware just cracks me up.

no kidding, there aren't many perennial double-digit sackers in the league, and he's so much more than that, he makes our D go

He's not a TNew (drafted Top 10) or Jones (when he's actually playing). Not worthy of a Top 10 pick as of now.

We were real lucky we had two picks that year, and that Jerry was still forceful as GM. I think Parcells was on record as saying if they had only had one pick, he would have taken Marcus Spears at 11.

Then that list would have been posted by San Diego fans, marvelling at the crazy choices before their pick....

Only other player that I would take is Edwards.

If I could pick between the two I'd still take Ware.

Rogers is a solid player, no doubt. He could theoretically become a pro-bowler if he gets healthy and continues improving. But Ware will most likely be a DPOY candidate for years to come.

I remember the big knock on him was playing for a small school, Troy.

And to think Parcells wanted Spears before him! Could you imagine how sick we would all be? Spears would still be Spears, and Ware would be playing for another team. Parcells would have never lived that one down!

On a side note....I think I would take Mike Williams over Alex Smith. lol
That kid sucks as much as Simms and Boller!

Right now Ware looks like a HOFer. Jones is possibly even more talented although he may never be looked on like that.

That's a very good observation.

Smile on this, we have two players in the top 11 picks that year, both Pro Bowl caliber players and all it cost us was an 11th overall pick and a 4th round pick! :laugh2:

I was thinking the same thing. Edwards and T.O. together? Sick.

While true, you can only throw the ball to one of them on any given play.

Love the Ware pick from the get go. And now we've got Adam Jones "who Hamlin has nicknamed AJ" w/o even benefit of our having a top 10 pick. If only WR Braylon Edwards would somehow fall into our hands.

Braylon Edwards was a sweet pick for the Browns at #3 but Dallas got DeMarcus Ware at #11, even sweeter.

There are negative connotations to "AJ" too....

A good CB vs. an All Pro and Pro Bowl OLB.

You tell me Joe, how are the scales tipping?

Browns fans would probably make the argument for Braylon Edwards.
