Anybody else catch this week’s edition of Inside the NFL?
Phil Simms has to be my favorite football personality right now, his analysis are always spot on, he is as unbiased as they come, and he defends and stands behind guys like Tony Romo despite being a long-time NY Giant.
This last episode was the final piece of evidence for me to actually say I love Simms. He defended Romo against Collinsworth, James Brown and idiot Brian Westbrook. He basically said it is unfair to judge Romo by his playoff record, that he has never had a dominating team, and he has matured enough to be considered a great player. Ended up calling Tony Romo THE man.

Brian Westbrook on the other side says they were never really scared of Romo, and all that typical NFC East hate.

It’s hard to dislike a guy like Simms, I wish everybody had the same mind as he does, but then again it comforts me to know that Simms has won it all, is in the Hall of Fame, and his input has more value than 99% of the rest of the idiots who couldn’t even tell you what an IQ is.

Finally, Romo is THE man, he is the only reason we contend year in and year out, and he is the best player the Cowboys have had in the decade and since Emmitt’s retirement, (no offense to Witten, Ware, etc.) But Romo is ultimately the engine that makes the car go, the is the V10 under that German BMW hood that gives the car the power. Witten, Ware, Owens, Bryant, etc are the exterior and the finishing touch of a masterpiece. I really wish more than anything else that Romo wins the big game, I will renounce my religion, my faith, and everything for that.

I dont know that I have ever in my 40 years seen a player more talked about and scrutinized that Romo its just unbelievable the attention he gets.

I feel the same way. One minor correction is that Simms is not in the HOF.

Simms/Nance & Michaels/Collinsworth are my favorite duos. I prefer SNF coverage in total to NBC but I must say from what I've watched Simms/Nance do the best job of reporting the game and leaving themselves out of it.

What is it with PBP guys like Buck & Brennamen thinking they need to do color too?

Wow, that is right, and he has never even been nominated for the Hall. As a younger fan, I didn't realize that.

After judging his stats, he never threw more than 22 TD's in a season, he passed for over 4,000 yards only once (1984) in his career, career rating of 78.5 and threw 199 career TD's. In contrast Romo has 175 for his.

So in a way he is the bizarro Romo. He won games, but he was never much of a QB in any other sense aside from the statistical perspective.

Perhaps that's a big reason why he likes Romo so much. He knows what Romo has done is a tough thing to do in the NFL, this is the highest level of competition and at times Romo dominates it.

He understands wins are not an individual characteristic, and that is how people judge Romo.

I personally like Collinsworth more than Sims. I see him as being pretty balanced when it comes to his opinions.

I don't need a journalist or talking head to agree with my take on my team. They have opinions, and in most cases are more knowledgeable than mine.

I used to get upset, but then it dawned on me one day that all the press and ex jocks that have made claims about Dallas have, for the most part, been correct over the last decade.

The team has talent. It has for a while. Yet it continually underachieves.

As far as Romo, the take on him is you can force him into a mistake at a critical time. Now the stat birds will come out and bring their charts and actuarial tables to disprove that, but this is what defenses think of Romo.

However, starting about game five or six of this season, he has shown he can lead the team in crunch time as well as anyone.

I saw a stat the other day that said during this time he has tossed 17 TDs and three picks. One of those picks was the half time Hail Mary which was essentially a punt.

Win and this goes away.

And to Capin' Morgan, you must not have been around when Namath was in his heyday.

The Giants offense was so boring...every game was a ball-control slugfest against them. I remember when 8-10 minute drives were common place for them.

Tim Tebow says, "Hello!" ;)

Dallas Cowboy + love/hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys + America's Team + quarterback + big moment gaffes + big moment victories + social media + tabloid journalism + entertainment magazine style television journalism + age of microwave judgments = attention on Romo

Ever since Lebron got a ring, people need to a new star athlete to root against.

I'm not going to lie, it was fun rooting against Lebron in the 2011 finals and seeing him continue to hold onto that choker label. That's probably how non-Cowboys fans feel about Romo.

You'd be hard pressed to find a QB talking head bash another QB unless he obviously deserves it. But I like Simm. He's good and never comes off negative or bias.

I put Simms and and Plunkett in the same class.

Phil Simms was always a Giant I respected, even liked. Him and Bavaro.

I have never really hated the Giants up until recently. Those 80's Giants were the only thing that allowed me to keep my sanity during the Gibbs Skins era. They used to beat up the Skins. They kept the Skins from having more success. I had to root for those Giants teams back then because somebody had to knock off the Skins.

I cant think of one negative thing to say about Phil Simms.

regardless if the playoff losses are all his fault the 1-3 playoff record still can't be ignored because most great QB will win more than 1 out of 4.

Phil Simms was nowhere near a HOF QB. He was a good QB not great

If they aren't entirely his fault, then why even bring it up in the first place?
I understand saying the golfer who hasn't won a Major talk. But a player who hasn't won a championship in a team game, especially in a sport as competitive and as challenging as football? I don't like it.

Phil Simms never speaks badly of any quarterback when he is doing game analysis. I remember him speaking well of Quincy Carter.

Because the QB position is the most important on any NFL team and based on the play of the guy in that position depends on the outcome of the game
