I love Phil Simms

The sample size is too small. Just a bounce here or there and that's 3-1, not 1-3.
Anyway, Peyton Manning was 1-3 after his 1st four playoff games.

Out of curiosity, what is the right sample size. Is there a "magical" number assigned to determine when it's okay to start evaluating playoff records?

I'm not trying to be a smart-alec. I really don't know.

You kidding? Romo doesnt get anything near what Elway got before he won a superbowl. They used to call him a coach killer lol

Sorry, but Elway didn't have the added pressure of social media. No quarterback prior to the Internet got as much attention as one in this era.

Dude you gotta learn to walk away. I learned that two years ago when in the Orlando airport I was wearing a Cowboys hat and this great guy with his wife and two kids engaged me as he was a lifelong Cowboy fan. After about a minute he then says, "We need to get rid of Romo." "Okay" I said. Who then?

He comes back with "Quincy Carter could've taken us to a Super Bowl." I shook his hand said goodbye to his wife and walked away.

The thing about the internet pressure that you refer to is that it's more ADD. "Back in the day" before the internet the only opinion you got was newspapers and what people were saying on TV. So it was more focused. There was a lot more focus on guys like Marino and Elway than there is even on Romo. Although I think Romo gets ripped by more fans now because of the internet. I doubt social media adds any pressure with any QB now just like the media didn't really have an impact on Elway/Marino's play in the 90s.

Phil Simms is the example of "bus driver" that Parcells was talking about.

He was Trent Dilfer. He was Joe "Norman Einstein" T.

Anybody else catch this week’s edition of Inside the NFL?
Phil Simms has to be my favorite football personality right now, his analysis are always spot on, he is as unbiased as they come, and he defends and stands behind guys like Tony Romo despite being a long-time NY Giant.
This last episode was the final piece of evidence for me to actually say I love Simms. He defended Romo against Collinsworth, James Brown and idiot Brian Westbrook. He basically said it is unfair to judge Romo by his playoff record, that he has never had a dominating team, and he has matured enough to be considered a great player. Ended up calling Tony Romo THE man.

Brian Westbrook on the other side says they were never really scared of Romo, and all that typical NFC East hate.

It’s hard to dislike a guy like Simms, I wish everybody had the same mind as he does, but then again it comforts me to know that Simms has won it all, is in the Hall of Fame, and his input has more value than 99% of the rest of the idiots who couldn’t even tell you what an IQ is.

Finally, Romo is THE man, he is the only reason we contend year in and year out, and he is the best player the Cowboys have had in the decade and since Emmitt’s retirement, (no offense to Witten, Ware, etc.) But Romo is ultimately the engine that makes the car go, the is the V10 under that German BMW hood that gives the car the power. Witten, Ware, Owens, Bryant, etc are the exterior and the finishing touch of a masterpiece. I really wish more than anything else that Romo wins the big game, I will renounce my religion, my faith, and everything for that.

It's obvious he's still bitter about the '09 sweep and not winning a SB with the Eagles. What a lack of respect. Why are guys that are so biased allowed to even speak? Speak with your mind not your heart.

I want to know too since he will be 33 soon. I swear some people acts like he is 24 and has many years left.

Plus everyone's body is not the same. Just because Farve played until 40 doesn't mean Romo will be able to

Wow, that is right, and he has never even been nominated for the Hall. As a younger fan, I didn't realize that.

After judging his stats, he never threw more than 22 TD's in a season, he passed for over 4,000 yards only once (1984) in his career, career rating of 78.5 and threw 199 career TD's. In contrast Romo has 175 for his.

So in a way he is the bizarro Romo. He won games, but he was never much of a QB in any other sense aside from the statistical perspective.

Perhaps that's a big reason why he likes Romo so much. He knows what Romo has done is a tough thing to do in the NFL, this is the highest level of competition and at times Romo dominates it.

He understands wins are not an individual characteristic, and that is how people judge Romo.

Very good commentary

Agree. The Eagles players hate success, having never tasted the big win....

It is even worse when it is a Cowboys fan. If Romo was a middle of the road, 58% completion guy that was barely throwing more TDs than int's I could see the debates but with what he has accomplished with the coaches/lines and running games he has had he has been amazing. When people say he is not top 10, I can listen to their arguments and they may have an opinion that makes sense for him only being 11 or 12 on their list, but some act like he is not even an NFL caliber QB which is mind boggling. I will try to walk away...won't be easy. Especially since I will be stuck with the spaz all new years who made the Sanchez comparison. :banghead:

I don't understand this post.

What do you mean it's more ADD?

I would argue it is more. You are right that back in the day you only had radio and television.

Now you have radio, television, cable outlets and Internet. But within the Internet you have bloggers, creating news, creating controversy.

Second, players may tell you they don't pay attention to the media, but they're lying. Even if they say they aren't, their teammates are. And those teammates relay that information to them. "Did you hear what Stephen A. said about you?"

They hear.

Third, I guess we have to define what pressure is. I'm not saying that pressure means that a quarterback is going to perform down to the criticism. I think "awareness" is a better word. Elway heard the criticism about him not being able to win the big one. That may not have impacted his play. But it was on his mind. It was on everyone's mind which is why Pat Bolen said, "This one's for John!"

They knew the pressure he was under even though he nor the Denver organization would admit it.

You can rest assure Romo is aware of it too.

Hillarious Brian Westbrook talking about romo not being able to get it done.

Hillarious, no member of that eagles team that made a run should ever ever say about other players they couldn't get it done.

Hillarious. The eagles and Andy Reid's run through the early 2000's is the epitome of not getting it done.

They were extremely talented and well coached and were in a bad division for years and the conference was down for the early part of there runs.

They should have gone to three or four Super Bowls with the teams they had on defense and the state of the NFC.

Yet they couldn't. Losing at home year after year in the playoffs.

Absolutely hillarious that Brian Westbrook would say that.

And to his comments that they didn't fear romo, please. First Westbrook didn't play defense and second they looked pretty confused trying to stop him in 07, the first meeting in 08 all three games in 09.

Hillarious, hey Westbrook who ended the eagles run in 09.

Tony Romo.

Does Westbrook make it to every show each week? Knowing that guy he mus miss at least 2 to 4 shows a year with some sort of illness or injury.
:laugh2:

This is exactly what I was going to say. Good job.
