This is not a Romo thread. This is a Bill Parcells thread. Fast forward to the Parcells portion of the video.

Can't do this anymore. Now you have to hug them and blow sunshine up their butts, or they'll quit on you. That's why so many coaches now look like 28-year-old IT guys.

Building character and discipline is a lost art in football. The sloppy nonsense of today gets hard to watch.

Coaches are just better at keeping that stuff off camera these days. Players still get their ***** lit up at times.

That being said, the level of play in the NFL has never been better. The league is less “sloppy” by any meaningful definition of the word than it ever has been. And to any extent/definition it isn’t, it’s largely due to the expanded rule book.

This is just “back in my day” silliness

Wow. Wrong. Delusionally wrong.

Coaches have no power today.

Parcells sucked when he was here.

I can still remember a day when players used to actually fear being replaced and not being able to make a living.
Yea, they also had regular jobs in the offseason.

Take away the mega TV deals and massive luxury stadiums and we can return to the NFL we had before.

If you want to see some good hard nose coaching go out on Friday night. There’s where some good coaching is still leading some schools almost every year to success despite the talent they have.

There’s some left in the NCAA but it’s mostly at smaller schools where scholarships aren’t allowed in Div 3 and NAIA. Some of them can still out recruit and stockpile talent but not as bad as Div 1 .

The NFL is all talent driven . Teams with Elite QB’s have a decisive advantage in Cap era. Much easier to build around since you have to pay lesser QB about the same.

I dont believe those coaches are extinct.

There are plenty of coaches that still coach hard nosed.

The fact of the matter is the playing field has changed. They are talking to guys with F you money now. There has to be some diplomacy to their message.

Make no mistake a guy like BB wouldn't let guys slack. In fact, often times those guys are sent packing.

I see this mentality in the fire dept as well. Where it is now a kinder, gentler department. However, it's not universal, and there are many who don't succumb to the mentality.

It takes a certain type to do certain jobs, and those guys will always be around.
