trick plays are for offenses that can't move the ball.

You should tell that to Sean Payton... The Saints have NO PROBLEM moving the ball. Yet they still call the double reverses and flea flickers around mid field!

Its called arm strength.

Drew Bledsoe had it. Romo doesn't. WR's have to release a little longer with Romo throwing it. Too much of a liability to underthrow the flea flicker.

Thats why you dont see it from average arm QB's.

I am anxiously awaiting the defense of the noodle by the wearers of the Romo lens.....

Unfortunately Brady-Quinn's-ManSlave is probably right, here. I don't think Romo has the cannon for the flea flicker.

I miss any sort of "Jap-play", though. Even inventive things.

For example - on Monday night, Henne was facing third and long from the 15 or something. Their OC made a great call on the sprint-out, knowing Ryan would come after him. They move the pocket, which gives henne an easy read - he can either hit the comeback, or throw it out of bounds. Henne found his WR, and the Dolphins win the game. For us, I imagine we'd have had Romo stand there in the shotgun, while Rex Ryan brought 7 up the middle.

We can barely run two plays back to back without doing something stupid, I don't know that we're ready for gimmicks.

If Chad Pennington can successfully throw a flea flicker (and he has as recently as last year), any QB can. Christ, you guys act like Romo is Brad Johnson Jr. or something. And no, a flea flicker doesn't have to travel 50-70 yards downfield.

No kidding. Romo's arm is plenty good for a flea-flicker.

And SP, I wouldn't even call that a trick or even inventive play, but I do wish we'd roll Romo out like Bill used to do. It only makes sense as well as he throws on the run.

But hey, I noticed RJ did that for one of the few times ever last game, and it worked, so maybe there's hope.

Please dont bring up anything about miami. that is our stinking staff and they should all be here. It makes me sick that all those guys were here and would have been happy to stay here and run the show.

oh and romo hit glenn on a flea flicker againt detoit in 06. This staff just doesnt call that stuff, just like norv turner never called that for aikman who certainly had the arm.

I don't think so. They all wanted to go work for the Jersey Conman.

Uh yes it does.

The very nature of the play relies on the speed of the WR's (leading them at full speed while they create separation with AIR on the ball) and the depth of the safety's after the playaction (how far you have to throw the ball again requires big air).

You cant a throw an effective flea flicker 40 yards or risk underthrowing it.

Not saying can't throw it because he can. JG just realizes potential for failure and prefers the delayed handoff instead.

Had sporano been hired I would be willing to bet most of them would have stayed.

Either way it looks like they are on their way to developing another set of young players to be good and they get alot of their team.

Jerry could have just made bill an executive and everyone would have stayed and it would have been the ultimate in continuity. thats assuming bill wanted to be around jerry, and if you listen to bob sturm he gave a pretty interesting take the other day on Bill leaving because he didnt want to have to deal with jerry anymore.

Either way, Sporano-henning-lee trumps what we have running our offense and they knew romo and they had the proper structure, they werent buddies they were his superiors.

either way I am happy David Lee, sean payton, Tony sporano, bill parcells and todd haley came through here or Romo would probably be in denver or somewhere else.

I dont rail on him. Just pointing out the obvious to me. Thread was about why we dont run the flea flicker and I told the truth on why.

Due to the routes and the timing of the release, you need the big arm to run the play. If you can potentially underthrow the flea flicker, you wont be throwing it.

Thats why you see Brady throw it to Moss. 70 yard throws. Just throw it out there and let your WR run to it.

Not hating on the "franchise"... he is the man!

Care to guess how far the ball traveled in the air when Bledsoe hit TG in stride on that flea flicker against KC?

About 58 yards.

You do realize we used to throw that to Keyshawn a bunch too right?

its about setting it up, selling it and executing it.

Agreed. But any WR will tell you they would rather have the big arm throwing it so it gives them time to create separation after the "run-block fake" or delay. It just increases chances of succeding. You see most QB's wait even after the ball comes back to them and take a big step into the throw.....

Or the Drew Bledsoe pat.....

Not saying he cant do it but big hands and the gun prevents the 50 yard duck.

again, comparing bledsoe's arm to many qbs in this league makes them look silly.

Compare bledsoe's arm to bree's. Bledsoe had a full on cannon.

But that doesnt mean romo cant be successfull throwing flea flickers, he could, this offense just doesn't incorporate it. Its a different offense.

Peyton manning has the arm to do it, but there offense doesn't do it either.

Agreed. There is no reason for gimmicks when he is under center.

He has playactioned and gone deep or TD's numerous times from the first play of the game.
