see the Thread on this MB. I think the board owners created it. Is it wrong? Joe Whitt is gone according to whomever created the thread topic
It is wrong. He may leave yet, but has not officially been hired

What organization doesn’t thrive keeping people in important positions when they’d rather be working for someone else? “No, I’m afraid you have to stay here whether you like it or not. Oh, by the way, please be our defensive coordinator.” The more I think about it, the more sure I am this is a prudent way to do business.
We don’t know if Al wouldn’t stay for a promotion.

A Chance to be defensive coordinator and if fail you just join Washington next year?

Incredibly telling about McCarthy if Harris would prefer an assistant job in Washington over a promotion in Dallas. Especially since he both played for and was hired by McCarthy.

Why? What makes people think he's so great other than he's good at teaching guys how to get picks? Has he called plays before? What's his understanding of other position groups? Why do we blame DQ for the blowup at GB but not also Al? I don't get the infatuation.

Harris is more of a technique coach for the DB's. He has next to no experience in devising schemes or coming up with gameplans to stop an entire offense.

In other words I want Harris to stay, but I don't think he's ready to be a DC yet.
how do you know this? every DC has to start somewhere, they just dont jump the line to become a DC.

Oh so?

How are you measuring if a guy is ready or not to coach coach? Not assistant...but coach coach?

Al Harris is 2 years older than Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell claims he started as quality control in the film room. How did he make the jump but Harris cant or isnt qualified?

Both played in the NFL. Dan Campbell is a head coach right now.

Define what you are using to measure these coaches. Do you have a spread sheet that lists their accomplishments? How are you getting inside info on how Harris isnt ready but Campbell is based on decisions they have made and are resposible for? Or McVay or McDaniels...both young guys.

How TF do you know Harris isnt ready? Fair question, imo.

I think Harris is the best option for DC. He’s not set in his ways yet and would understand the need to beef up the middle of the defense. Using what he learned from Quinn coupled with a new scheme featuring bigger LBs the transition could be seamless.
Supposedly he himself has said he's less of a scheme coach and more of a motivator/technique guy. Think one of the guys on one of the Dallas Cowboys podcasts or local beat reporters said that. They weren't saying it as an insult, just like where he's at.
So maybe he's not a deep scheme guy yet, would make sense if that's why wants to go with Quinn so he can keep building his skillset up.

Whoever they pick as DC will receive a lot hate if we continue to struggle against the run and the continue to get abused and manhandled in big games. Our defense over the past 2+ decades has been our undoing in the playoffs.

Ain't gonna happen,if you're a lame duck coach, and this season depends on going far into the playoffs,I'm not trusting an on the job training DC to determine my coaching job.but that doesn't mean I dislike Harris, but I'm not gonna put my trust in a rookie with my job on the line.

maybe but al cant decide on personnel and the size, that would come thru jones boys and the puppet HC mike.
I doubt he could even change the scheme without approval from the above.
Might be better to leave him where he is.

He always struck me as a poor communicator. And there are too many coverage breakdowns.

They should have purged every single coach associated with this trash defense. Why do any of them deserve a promotion?
