Sure, they're going to move on from Dak after this season and eat $62 million in dead cap next year.
Dak has a 2024 cap hit of $59.4M with $61.9M in dead money.....:

-so if traded pre June 1st(he would have to release his no trade clause) it's a roughly $2.5M loss (cap hit versus dead money)

-if traded post June 1st it's a $34M savings in 2024 with $11M saved in 2025 and an $11.5M net loss in 2026

-if post June 1st released it's a net savings of roughly $28M savings for 2024 and similar savings/loss as above in 2025 and 2026.

So there is a way to play with the numbers if Dallas wanted to move on from Dak after this season.

Just make him great in pressure and leadership.

QB3 is strictly a developmental position.
Obviously Greer wasn't the guy.
This kid has to have something going for him, haven't seen enough of him to have a opinion.
Yep. Guy has every physical tool. He just hasn't played that much football. Unfortunately the one thing he needs he can only get by playing football.

I just don't see why so many people are so negative about this move. Giving a fourth for a guy who is still really young and can get some development over the next year or two is a very reasonable price to pay IMO. His contract is cheap enough that it isnt going to keep you from doing anything in the future if it doesn't pan out.

So you put him in to the same offense you put Dak in 2016 and watch him shine.

This is the type of move that Jerry has refused to do since even going back to Aikman. Which is make a move for a talented young QB while you have a franchise QB on the roster.

Has to be the MM affect.
I’ve read the cowboys has a 2nd rnd grade on him which to me sounds about right.
The thing about him was you were buying the physical talent but guessing on the mental part. He hasn’t played enough football to develop that part of his game. One college season and very little in the pros
A 4th is worth the gamble and while it may not work out, the chance to try is well worth it. If he could just develop into a solid backup it’s a huge win

If someone wants trey to work.
That kid needs to stay on the bench during games
Wear a seat out in the film room
Have a Coach in his ear all day every day

In other words if he has a chance it is going to take some time and a lot of dedication.

Right now on his best day he is not going to beat out Dak.

If Dak leaves without a new contract, it is because it is about money or serious injury.
It is not about this kid beating him out this season.

If you want to be labeled a realist...be realistic.

This kid needs time if he is ever going to make it
Exactly. This is a long-term project. The only problem I see with that is that Lance himself believes he's more ready right now than he actually is.

IMO, this is the QB who fit what Dallas wants to do the best, but they missed out on him.
