I Think We Need Another Back

If Pollard can handle about 20 combined touches per game and Deuce about ten, that should be enough.

McCarthy has also said he likes Dowdle's running style so they could also use him in short yardage. Dowdle's power is a bit underrated.
I thought Malik ran solid enough last year to be a back up/goal line guy. He just needs carries. I have no problem with our backs. You arent ever gonna have Adrian Peterson as your backup.

Unless we are getting a RB like Johnathon Taylor I see no other reason to pick one up.

20 is too much for Pollard. He should avg closer to 15. I can't see them putting that kind of workload on him, if they are thinking of playoffs.

Duece, Dowdle and Luepke will need to chip in a lot. RJ coming back will depend on what we get out of those guys the first couple weeks imo
He said 20 COMBINED. I have no problem with that. 13-14 carries and 4-6 receptions. He is explosive and a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. We need to use him IMO.

If it is 3rd and 2 use the QB sneak. It has been demonstrated effective for decades.

If it is a longer to go than that a power back is not going to guarantee anything.

3 yards and a cloud of dust has not been a viable strategy this millennium.

We have two good backs. But we're gonna come across that team that uses their speed to stop our speed and I just feel like we need a bruiser. I can see us losing a game or two at the goalline.

Do we have an inside the 5 back with Micah or even LVE?

Now that I think about it, you wouldn't know what to do as a defense if Micah lined up as a HB behind Vander Esch at FB.

Any chance we see Micah on offense in this role?

Zeke has been the lead guy for the last 7 years so it may feel odd going into the season without him. However, many of us fans have been screaming for more Pollard and now its his time. Its not like we're going into the season without a lead runner which then I would agree with adding another back. However, maybe Rico and Vaughn are ready too and we're on the brink of having a pretty dynamic run game. Keep in mind Rico is a pretty strong runner, so though he's not the household name we're used to he's likely more capable than we realize.

No. I mean a better one than Luepke, Davis, Dowdle...we have a 1, 2 w Pollad and Vaughn but we need another back unless they plan on running Pollard into the ground bell cow style.

I have to think Jones comes back when his suspension is over.
Luepke is the guy, he's a good one. There is no "Fridge". LOL
If they don't keep Luepke, they will have made a big mistake IMO.

They don't need another back. They already have more backs than they can play.

The QB sneak just hasn't been good to the Cowboys for a long time. Seems like we've fell short a lot of times with the sneak.

Luepke probably solidified his place as that. A 230 lb back is about as heavy as they come these days, with very few exceptions.

Will he make the 53? Really hard to say. Guys like him aren't in huge demand, so there's a decent chance they try to sneak him on to the PS; but then again, he was evidently a hot commodity in the UDFA market, hence his bonus.

Did I mention it's really hard to say?
He looked like a very promising player against the Raiders. Yes, it was the backups and third string, but that doesn't negate the speed, quickness, and good hands he showed

Nothing says a poster should be taken seriously more than "let's put Micah at RB".

Naw, I heard him right. I don't believe 20 combined is realistic. 14.5 last year, they will bump him up a bit, but 20 is a lot of tread for a guy that hasn't been tested and we will need for the playoffs.

My thing is back off on the usage when we don't absolutely have to have it and spread it out.

I honestly don't see a need to add another RB. I think most fans is underestimating Tony Pollard and have this perception that he can't handle goal line carries or be successful inthe Redzone.

All I seen this guy do is make plans inthe running and screen game that got us into the Red zone, only to get subbed out to appease Zeke while he get his opportunity to punch it inthe endzone.

Zeke is gone and now it's the TP show

I have been saying this since I realized Zeke's contract was set up to cut him after 2022. I was absolutely shocked they didn't draft a guy mid rds last year, to be ready for this year. And even more shocked they didn't make more of a move than they did this year.
I still think we could see them bring in a guy after cuts.

I ask, me fellow playmates, is Leupke a one-game wonder or a bruising, steady chap?

Much of the heavy lifting of a short yardage run (goal line run), is done by the OL and the TE’s. I’ve seen smaller backs get TD’s on a 1 yard run to the end zone. It isn’t just a Mike Alstott type RB that runs on short yardage.

I’m not sure that the team feels the same way you do about needing a big, bruising RB.

If they do, they’ll probably make the trade that you’re talking about. If they don’t, they likely won’t… so we should know in the next week if they view it like you do.
Just have a couple guys shove Dak from behind. The rules allow it and it has a fairly high success rate.

Here we go with this bs again. Short yardage specialist. I would expect nothing less from a undercover stormtrooper.

The league - good offenses anyway - certainly doesn't agree.
