casmith, i understand the concerns about a future cap but structure it year 1 heavy if need be. Plus its likely a wash with the flo/hamlin contracts we could move.

Peppers is 30 years old.
Gaither is only 24. He's not even reached his prime yet. Drafting only provides so much talent(or lack of it on our OL track record).
Why not get a guaranteed player for the next 6 years and worry about other spots and depth for the draft.

And one day you'll get the facts right, or maybe you wont. They are both RFA's so we can pay them whatever we want to.....
ukinto8;3299895 said:fuzzy - wrong again. We can sign a restricted FA to any deal we want. It has nothing to do with guys that are cut.
yes we can sign a released player to any deal but we can an RFA as well. I am not making this up .

Its not going to kill our cap to go out and get Gaither.
Its at a position that you want to spend big money on too.
We've bargain shopped and thats why we are in the position we are in at Left Tackle.
You say you maybe want to shop for Larry in a couple years. Well Larry doesn't put this offense over the top. Giving Romo an extra half second does.
The skill players are in place and the better we protect Romo the more deadly this offense will be.
On top of all that the Cowboys save money if they dump Flo and Hamlins contract in a uncapped year.
We are paying premium at those positions anyways so we might as well get better production.
Gaither is a get by free card on all of the bad things that have happened to us at that position.
I like Free but starting him at Left Tackle is basically risking a season. Not worth it.

And I wouldn't call the contract we gave Flozell Adams exactly bargain shopping. Nor would I the extensions of Crayton, Romo, Ware, and soon to be Miles Austin, if you're attempting to say Jerry Jones is a bargain shopper. If so, check my temperature and look outside because of swine flu.
I'm just not sure where all of the man-love for Gaither is coming from. He hasn't done anything but come from Maryland. I would prefer not to have anyone from UMD on our team.

If a player is already on the team, the idea of RE-signing them never comes up, its a must, despite whether or not they will cost.
But if its a free agent who can help us, their cost somehow is outrageous. Even if it is the equivalent of a player who is already on the team, who can be let go, resulting in an upgrade.
You're assuming that he's not good because the Ravens have a replacement on their team already, and have other guys they need to give $$$ to.casmith07;3299937 said:It's completely different when that person you want to re-sign is DeMarcus Ware with his 20 sack season, or Miles Austin with 1320 yards receiving and 11 TDs.
When it's Jared Gaither, a guy that the Ravens are willing to let walk to move another guy into his position, it's different. Very different.

AdamJT13;3299047 said:No, we can pay one guy $5,807,475 OR MORE in his first year, plus annual increases. There's no limit for what we can pay him this year.

Let's not use Mickey Spagnola logic.
