Saw the exact same thing. His play speed last night wasn't anywhere near what his testing will be.

I still love him at 17 though lol

We need linebacking and db's, safeties and interior dline. I even see left tackle and left guard as a need.

I don't think tackling is something they 'teach' in the pros. One is expected to know how to tackle and to tackle by the time one is on a pro team. Some coaches demand it and punish those who refuse to tackle. Some don't. The league is getting soft. DBs are making business decisions.

Look at some of the weak tacklers on the Cowboys. Does it look like anyone was teaching them anything about tackling?

If Delpit has problems tackling in college, it will only get worse in the pros. Fumbling can get better, drops can get better, strength can get better. Fear of tackling and poor angles rarely, if ever, get better.

Our idiot coaches played him at the wrong position for much of his first few years in the league.

Man, I really think you guys are misreading Simmons. He's the epitome of a football player...just happens to be great athletically too. Not a freak athlete first. A football player, by far, first.
I guess time will tell. No need for me to harp on it.

And the analogy is silly anyway. Jones is arguably a Top 10 CB in this league. The only issue with his development was Marinelli thought it was brilliant to try to make him a FS.

Yeah, I was thinking "do people think Byron Jones is all that bad?", but didn't go there.

I do think Simmons is more of a playmaker.
    • Last night, he had passes defended, a sack, and tackles for loses
    • vs Ohio State he got the 2nd int of Justin Fields all season on a long ranging play in the secondary

Dude is all over the place making plys

He's around the ball and making plays in the secondary.

    He's a solid player.

I had to defend Jaylon Ramsey on this forum when he was coming out of FSU because people were so concerned about his take aways and ignored his incredible cover skills.

This Delpit guy has some big time cover skills. It's his tackling that is bad.

This. It reminds me of Gerod Holliman from a few years back. He led the nation with like 10 picks but if you watch his tape he had zero interest in tackling. I argued with a couple people on this board that Safeties who can’t tackle are liabilities more than assets even if they make plays on the ball. He ended up being drafted in the 7th round and is out of the league now.

Now Delpit is no where near as atrocious at tackling as Holliman was and the willingness to tackle is there but they don’t teach you how to tackle in the NFL like you said.

Maybe his injuries were more of a factor than he let on because his 2018 tape is better but it’s is still worrisome.

Its just something missing with him to me. Something that wasnt missing from Adams, Ramsey or Derwin. Just my opinion.

I'll make it easy....1 on 1 with Barkley can he take him down in ur opinion? If the answer is no then why draft him. Hes the safety and the last line of the defense, tackling is a huge deal. Look at what happened to us this year with bad tackling. I'll take McKinney or I give up a first for Adam's.

    I'll take Simmons over Delpit.

Tackling can be improved, but it's not a coaching issue, it's a player issue IMO.

we need fundamentally sound players. Delpit struggles tackling. I think we can land a starting safety in round 2 or 3. OR we need to call the Jets and see if they would accept next years 1st and this years 2nd and a player, for Adams.

or lets draft Winfield at 17(yes I know its too high)..but at least we have a guy who is sound at cb and safety. I trust him over Delpit.
