The defense is terrible and gave up 17 points. 17. 17. 17. 17. 17.

A good offense scores more than that even if they dont win the TOP battle.

Yet Cowboys have WON every game that Murray fumbled when Cowboys continued to feed him the ball. Crazy right??? Running also protects a gimpy QB who the opposing D is detrrmined to blitz into oblivion. You definitely cannot win a game by not completing a pass and being completely inept when passing on 3rd. Feeling foolish yet?

Harris is irrelevant, but they gave up freaking 17 points. How anyone can blame this game on the D is beyond me.

It's shared blame. Assessing a game is not for simpletons. A guy who hasn't started in 3 years torched this defense in the last two and a half quarters. They allowed almost 40 minutes of possession. It was their fault after we tied it at 17-17 with all the momentum and 8 minuets left that we ended up on our own 5 with less than 2 minutes left. In OT if they force a punt instead of getting pushed 60 yards downfield for a deciding FG maybe we win.

The tackling was horrid. The pass rush weak.

Those are facts it doesn't exonerate all the offense mistakes

They could not contain them in the 2nd half and overtime. The offense is to blame also but tonight we did not see the UFO's.....................missed tackles left and right with crucial 3rd down conversions.

If you can promise me that Dallas controls the clock the rest of the way and keeps the defense off the field, then I will buy into it. But, like we saw tonight, our defense will not win games......it has to be on the offense.

This defense is held together with duct-tape and WD-40 and that won't last much longer. Never thought I would be pinning for Brent to come back(if ready) and Lawrence needs to be ready.

If we're using WD40 and duct tape to hold the D together, somebody needs to tell the team WD40 is used as a solvent and lubricant. It's terrible for holding things together.

This loss says more about our coaching staff on offense regarding the blitzes and we were always on the back foot playing into the Commanders hands.

Defense was ordinary though and the secondary were exposed big time which is a worrying thought considering McCoy just beat us. Pass rush pass rush pass rush we need big time and no pressure on the QB kills you.

In saying that you always look slow and on the back foot when you lose games but onto next week we go and i just hope Tony is o.k.

The fact is, Murray is doing his part, now the coaches and Romo needs to do their part. Teams know how to beat Romo. It's not secret, it's been the same every year. And usually, Romo does good the first part of the season until teams realize that you just have to blitz and confuse him and then all of a sudden, we start losing. I hate to be negative about Romo because I've backed him all year long, but ask yourself. Why would they do a foolish thing like all-out blitz Romo? Who's crazy enough to try that? Unless they know it works.

Romo needs to study blitzes from A to Z. Don't study anything else but blitzes because if you can't get to the QB because your OLine is too good, the next best things is to send more than we can block and dare the QB to beat it. Where this team goes is up to Romo.

The offense isn't going to do that, which is what's concerning.

But god God, with the weapons and this Oline, they should be able to score darn near 30 a game. 17 Shouldn't be an issue regardless of the other teams blitzes or w/e

LOL. Murray was the only reason Cowboys were even in this game.

Yup. A lost fumble is critically bad. But when you contribute 220 offensive yards on top of the fumble, well, you're far from my goat.

As to the original post, yes, there's no denying our defense lacks talent. We've known this all along. We have a few unheralded pieces that are playing above their heads and can be key cogs in the rotation moving forward, but we need more talent on the defensive side of the ball. That was the case during our six-game win streak, and it remains the case today.

That doesn't mean you release all 11 starters, fire the coordinator and move the team to Canada. It just means we're still several pieces away from having the kind of defense we want.

Agree. D is playing out of their minds and Marinelli is squeezing everything out of each and every one of them but still a impact player or THREE away from being a contending defense. Even if Romo becomes 100%, the identity of this offense is to run the ball. If Troy can sublimate his game to win, so can Romo. But coaches have to remain just as disciplined.

There was quite a few missed tackles this game that could have stopped a couple scoring drives and change the game imo

LOL. Overreact much? Someone pull out the stat about Murray getting 20 carries plus and win correlation. Team lost because it went away from what was working, run, run and run some more. Murray scores in red zone if given the ball even ONE more time, instead coaches call 2 passing plays for the backup. Ridiculous.

Skins blitzed 7 and 8 guys every time Romo went shotgun, it was pathetic seeing Cowboys expose Romo like that especially when he returned and was obviously not right.

A lot of that seemed to audibles from Romo.

A couple of weeks ago, I made a thread that was all for drafting another blue chipper on the OL. I was loving the run game at the time, and still am up to a point.

But, it is obvious to me that this defense can not hold up 16 games with the current make-up. We need a dominant DE, ML, CB and a safety.

We do have three good linebackers but I don't think we will ever see them all play in the same game. Moore and Mo need to battle it out for a back-up and we need a ball-hawking FS. A huge NT would not hurt either but we need to get some sacks and consistent pressure on all three downs.

This defense is held together with duct-tape and WD-40 and that won't last much longer. Never thought I would be pinning for Brent to come back(if ready) and Lawrence needs to be ready.

D. Harris needs to find a new home next season, we need someone more explosive back there.

If Dallas wants to sign AP and let Murray go, I won't argue that either. Sick and tired of his fumbles and carrying the ball like a loaf of bread just to get that extra yard after a 1st down.

I know, I know...it is one game but it was not pretty.

We play half-arsed next week and we will be ran out of the building....get it together now!

The defense needs an overhaul, but you can only do so much, so fast. A top notch pass rusher should be on the top of their want list this off season.

I don't know that Dallas has 3 good linebackers. I mean, Lee is good. Durant is above average. After that, I'm not blown away by the hype around McClain, and I've seen Carter suck way too many times to forget about it. In any event, you're right, they can't stay healthy, so Dallas will need to add yet another guy. That guy will essentially replace Carter next season.

I'll pass on the Harris comment (BTW, isn't he gone after this season anyway?), and just go to Special Teams as a whole. Outside of Bailey, I think they're coming up a little short this season. They nearly cost Dallas the game in Seattle, and they're not doing much to help Harris break a long one either. Honestly, I have doubts about their coverage too, but Bailey kicks so many balls out of the endzone, that we don't see them asked to defend often enough to know exactly what they have to offer.

Not down with the AP signing. Murray's fumbles are ridiculous, but what's more ridiculous is that Dallas seems to not be all that worried about them. It's a correctable problem. See Tiki Barber or your boy, AP. They each had a problem with it at one time. It can be fixed, but you don't start to fix it until you acknowledge it, and then try to fix it.

I don't think AP's fumbling is much better than Murray's. When you fight for those extra yards, strips seem to happen.

He is still #8 in punt returns and contributes to the team in many more way than just that.

Agree. Our gunners are getting beat on KO's and Punt Returns. Also the punter yesterday had a 50 yard average, and didn't look like he decreased that.

Watch our special teams, and you will see Harris is usually the first guy down the field and in position to make a play. He's fallen off some in that regard in the last few games, but in the past has often been the first tackler.

The word fumble is used, but in reality at least 4 to 5 guys had tackled him and stripped the ball.

Reflecting on that TO, we missed an opportunity to get at least another 3 points, and possibly 7 based on the field position. At times our guys try TOO Hard for those extra yards, especially in this case where it was a long gainer.

Wow just wow.. I don't even know where to start.

If not for that Oline, Murray, and the run game we would be midle of the pack. We finally found an identity on offense. Now if we could just stick to it consistently we will be fine.

All we need on Defense is disruption on the DL. That's it! Without consistent pass rush and the ability to control the gaps, everyone else behind the DL will continue to look replaceable.

Agree about Brent and Lawrence. We need that DL injection like yesterday.

D Harris is still a major contributor on many facets of special teams. Not just returns. He also provides an occasional spark on offense. Good weapon to habe. We will miss him when he's gone.

I really wish the AP talk would stop. Murray is continuing to get better while leading the league in rushing. I can guarantee you the fumbling hurts him more than anyone else. He will correct it. Sometimes it's best to go down or just run out of bounds. Emmitt used to do it all the time at the end of a nice run when facing multiple defenders. I guarantee you those coaches are keying on the fumbles and DeMarco will correct that issue.

Yes. It is just one game. It's over. Time to watch film and prepare for 7-2. The Cards will take notice of what Washington did to us in the blitz depth so we had better correct that this week. Todd Bowles is licking his chops.
